And the greedy person is called ḥarīṣ because he peels the faces of people with his greed.
وهو مأخوذ من السحابة الحارصة التي تقشر وجه الأرض
And it is taken from the 'ḥāriṣah' cloud which peels the face of the earth.
والحرص يتعدى بعلى، وهو المعروف
And al-ḥirṣ is transitive with 'ʿalā', which is the known usage.
ولقد حرصت بأن أدافع عنهم
And I was eager to defend them.
فهو حريص، من قوم حراص وحرصاء
So he is ḥarīṣ, from a people of ḥurrāṣ and ḥirṣā'.
وقوله تعالى حريص عليكم أي على نفعكم

والحارصة: الشجة، قيل: هي أول الشجاج، وهي التي تشق الجلد قليلا

والحرصة، بالفتح: تفرق الشخب في الإناء لاتساع خرق في الطبي من جرح
And al-ḥarṣah, with fatḥa: is the scattering of milk in the vessel due to the widening of a hole in the udder from a wound.

And al-ḥirṣiyān, with kasra: is the inner skin of the belly.
هي الظلمات ثلاث هي الحرصيان والغرس والبطن
They are the three darknesses: al-ḥirṣiyān, al-ghars, and the belly.
وقيل بل عنى به الحرصيان والرحم والسابياء
And it was said that it meant al-ḥirṣiyān, the womb, and the fetus.

A man 'iḥtaraṣa': he was greedy, and according to Abu Amr: he strove to obtain something.
والحرصة، بالفتح: الشقة في الثوب
And al-ḥarṣah, with fatḥa: is the tear in the garment.

And a toiling donkey, like 'muʿaẓẓam': is one that works hard.
