And it was said: al-balanṣī is the name for the plural. Al-Khalīl said: I asked a Bedouin: What is the name of this bird? He said: al-balasūs. I said: What is its plural? He said: al-balanṣī. Then Al-Khalīl said, or someone said: Like al-balasūs follows al-balanṣī.

والبلص، بكسر فتشديد والبلوص، كسنور، والبلصة، محركة: أبو بربص كقنفذ، هكذا في النسخ وصوابه أبو بريص كزبير، عن ابن خالويه.

And al-balas, with kasra then shadda, and al-bulūs, like sunūr, and al-balsah, vocalized: Abu Barbaṣ, like qunfudh. This is how it is in the copies, and its correction is Abu Barīṣ, like Zubayr, from Ibn Khālawayh.

والبلنصاة، بكسر ففتح: بقلة، نقله الأزهري في التهذيب في الرباعي، وقال الصاغاني: هي البلنصاء، بالفتح للبقلة، عن الليث، والبلنصي: جمعه.

And al-balanṣāh, with kasra then fatḥa: an herb. Al-Azhari transmitted it in Al-Tahdhīb in the quadriliteral section. Al-Ṣāghānī said: It is al-balanṣāʾ, with fatḥa for the herb, from Al-Layth, and al-balanṣī is its plural.

وقال ابن عباد: البلنصي: طائر أخضر البيض يبيض في العضاه، ج بلاصي، بتشديد الياء.

And Ibn ʿAbbād said: Al-balanṣī: a bird with green eggs that lays in thorny trees, plural: balāṣī, with shadda on the yāʾ.

قال: وابن بلصي محركة: طائر طويل الذنب قصير الجناح.

He said: And Ibn Balasī, vocalized: a bird with a long tail and short wings.

قال: والبلصي، كزمكي: طائر آخر كالصرد، الواحد بلص، بكسر فتشديد، أو هو بلصو، محركة، وتشديد الواو، والأنثى بلصوة، والجمع بلصى على فعلى، ولم يذكر أبو حاتم شيئا مما في هذا التركيب في كتاب الطير.

He said: And al-balaṣī, like zamakī: another bird like the shrike. The singular is balas, with kasra then shadda, or it is balasū, vocalized, and the wāw is shadded. The female is balaswah, and the plural is balasā on the pattern of faʿlā. Abu Ḥātim did not mention anything from this structure in his book on birds.

وقال الصاغاني عن ابن خالويه: البلص والبلوص والبلصو: البلصوص.

And Al-Ṣāghānī said from Ibn Khālawayh: Al-balas, and al-bulūs, and al-balasū: are al-balasūs.

وبلصته من مالي تبليصا: خلصته، ولم أدع عنده شيئا، عن ابن عباد.

And I stripped him of my wealth, tablisā: I took it all, leaving nothing with him, from Ibn ʿAbbād.

وبلصت الغنم تبليصا: قلت ألبانها، كتبلصت، نقله الصاغاني عن ابن فارس، وقال: فيه نظر.

And the sheep reduced their milk, tablīsā: their milk became less. It is like taballasat. Al-Ṣāghānī transmitted it from Ibn Fāris, and said: This requires consideration.

وتبلص: تبرص، عن ابن فارس.

And taballaṣa: tabarraṣa, from Ibn Fāris.

وتبلص الشيء: طلبه، وفي التكملة: أخذه في خفاء. عن ابن فارس، قال: وفيه نظر.

And taballaṣa the thing: he sought it. In Al-Takmilah: he took it stealthily. From Ibn Fāris, who said: This requires consideration.

وتبلص له: أراغه وأراده، عن ابن عباد.

And taballaṣa for him: he intended and desired it, from Ibn ʿAbbād.

وتبلصت الغنم الأرض: رعت ما فيها أجمع، وهو بعينه معنى التبرص، فهو تكرار.

And the sheep grazed the land, taballasat: they grazed all that was in it, which is the same meaning as tabarraṣat, so it is a repetition.

وابلنصي الرجل: ذهب، يقال: كان معي طائر فابلنصي مني، عن ابن عباد.

And the man went away, ablanṣā: he went. It is said: A bird was with me, then it went away from me, from Ibn ʿAbbād.

وابلنصي من ثيابه: خرج عن ابن عباد.

And he got out of his clothes, ablanṣā: he exited, from Ibn ʿAbbād.

وبالصه مبالصة: واثبه، فهو مبالص، عن ابن عباد.

And he assaulted him, mubālaṣah: he attacked him, so he is a mubāliṣ, from Ibn ʿAbbād.
