And Al-Haws is corruption; you say: the wolf corrupted the sheep, it corrupts with corruption, if it causes corruption among them. Ibn Duraid transmitted this.

والهوس: الدوران، يقال: هو! يهوس، أي يدور، نقله الصاغاني.

And Al-Haws is spinning; it is said: he! he spins, meaning he revolves, Al-Saghani transmitted this.

والهوس، بالتحريك: طرف من الجنون، قاله الجوهري، وقال الزمخشري: وبرأسه {هوس، أي دوران، أو دوى، وهو} مهوس: كمعظم، عن ابن عباد.

And Al-Haws, with vowelization: a touch of madness, said Al-Jauhari. Al-Zamakhshari said: and in his head is Haws, meaning dizziness or ringing, and he is Mahwoos: like Ma'dhoom, from Ibn Abbad.

والناس {هوسى والزمان} أهوس. أي الناس يأكلون طيبات الزمان والزمان يأكلهم بالموت. هكذا فسره ابن الأعرابي.

And the people are Hoosa and the time is Ahwas. Meaning people eat the good things of time and time eats them with death. Thus interpreted Ibn Al-A'rabi.

والهواسة مشددة: الأسد الهصور الكاسر، قال رؤبة:) (إن لنا {هواسة عربضا ... نعلو به ومخبطا مهضا)

And Al-Hawasa, with shadda: the mighty, breaking lion. Ru'ba said: (Indeed, we have a broad-chested Hawasa... we rise above it and strike it forcefully)

And the haa', in Al-Hawasa, is for exaggeration, not for feminine.

And Al-Hawasa is the experienced brave one, like Al-Hawwas.
