And it is said: Nahr Abi Fatrūs, and this is the famous name. This river is near Ramla in the land of Palestine. Its source is from a mountain near Nablus, and it empties into the Salt Sea between the cities of Arsuf and Jaffa.
به كانت وقعة عبد الله بن علي بن عبد الله بن عباس ببني أمية، فقتلهم في سنة،
Near it was the battle of Abdullah bin Ali bin Abdullah bin Abbas against the Umayyads, where he killed them in a certain year.
ورثاهم عبد الله العبلي مولاهم في قصائد منها:
And Abdullah Al-Abili, their freedman, mourned them in poems, including:
وبالزابيين نفوس ثوت ... وأخرى بنهر أبي فطرس
And by the Zab rivers souls perished... and others by the river Abi Fatrūs.
أولئك قوم أناخت بهم ... نوائب من زمن متعس
Those are people whom misfortunes from a difficult time have made to kneel.
وقال المهلبي: ويقال: إنه ما التقى عليه عسكران إلا هزم المغربي منهما.
And Al-Muhallabi said: It is said that whenever two armies met there, the one from the West was defeated.
