And 'Alasi' is the strong man, Marar said:

إذا رآها العلسي أبلسا ... وعلق القوم أداوى يبسا

When the strong man saw them, he despaired... and the people hung up dry remedies.

والعلسي: نبات نوره كالسوسن الأخضر، وهو نبات الصبر، قال أبو عمر و: وهو شجرة المقر

And 'Alasi' is a plant whose flower is like green iris, and it is the sabir plant, Abu 'Amr said: it is the maqarr tree.

كأن النقد والعلسي أجنى ... ونعم نبته واد مطير

As if the silver and the 'Alasi' plant have borne fruit... and how good is its growth in a rainy valley.

والعلس، بالفتح: ما يؤكل ويشرب، عن أبي ليلى، وقد علست الإبل تعلس: أصابت ما تأكله.

والعلس: الشرب، وقد علس يعلس، ومن جد ضرب إذا شرب وقيل: أكل.

And 'alays' is seasoned roasted meat, and it is also: cooked roasted meat, and Ibn al-Qatta' said: it is roasted meat with skin, and so it is for Al-Jawhari, and one roasted ('alassat) meaning was roasted, and roasted meat ('mashwi mu'allas') is eaten with ghee.

والعليس: الشواء السمين، هكذا حكاه كراع،) وذكر الأزهري في باب خذع شواء معلس ومخذع.

And 'alays' is fatty roasted meat, thus narrated by Kura', and Al-Azharī mentioned in the chapter of 'khadha'' roasted meat that is 'mu'allas' and 'mukhdha''.
