Al-'Afres, Jawhari neglected it, and Ibn Duraid said: 'Afaras, with kasra: is a name.
Al-Sagani transmitted it.
And he is the father of a tribe in Yemen, and he is 'Afres bin Half bin Aftal, who is Khath'am bin Anmar.
And others said: Al-'Afres and Al-'Ifrīs, like 'ifrīt, and Al-'Afrās, and the author alluded to it in 'Arfas and Al-'Afroos, with damma, and Al-'Afrans, like safarjal: the strong-necked, thick lion, and whatever is other than the 'ayn, rā', and fā' is an addition.
And 'afarasa him 'afarsatan, if he threw him down and overcame him, it is said: and by this the lion was named 'ifrīs.
And Al-'Afrans, like khadranq, the difference in the two patterns is for variety: the thick-necked, strong one among camels, lions, dogs, and slaves, as stated by Al-Azhari and others. The author only limited it to camels by imitating Al-Sagani alone, and did not review the primary sources, with his deficiency in mentioning Al-'Arfās here, along with Al-'Afrans in the meaning he mentioned, and mentioning Al-'Afaras like Ja'far: the swift runner.
And al-'afārīs: ostriches.

'Afaras, like zubruj: a tribe in Yemen, and the author mentioned it with qāf, which is a misspelling, and it is said to be a dialectal variant.
And Ibn al-'Ifrīs, like qindīl: he is Abu Sahl Ahmad bin Muhammad al-Zuzani, the Shafi'i Imam, jurist, theologian, and author of Jam' al-Jawami', the book he abridged from the books of Al-Shafi'i, may God be pleased with him, and from him Al-Taj al-Subki took the name of his book Jam' al-Jawami'.
