وقال ابن السكيت: هوا لذي جدتاه من قبل أمه وأبيه أعجميتان، وامرأته أعجمية، والفلنقس: الذي هو عربي لعربيتين، وجدتاه من قبل أبويه أمتان، وامرأته عربية.
And Ibn al-Sikkīt said: He whose two grandmothers from his mother's and father's side were non-Arabs, and his wife is non-Arab. And al-filnaqis: he who is Arab for two Arabisms (i.e., lineage), and his two grandmothers from his parents' side were slave women, and his wife is Arab.
والعبقسي: نسبة إلى عبد القيس القبيلة المشهورة، كالعبدري: إلى عبد الدار، ويقال أيا: العبدي، وقد تقدم في ع ب د.
And al-'abqasī: a nisba to Abd al-Qays, the famous tribe, like al-'abdari: to Abd Dār. It is also said: al-'abdī, and it has preceded in 'a b d.
والعبنقساء: الرجل النشيط، فيما يقال، كما في العباب:
And al-'abnaqasā': the energetic man, as it is said, as in al-'Abbāb:
والعبقيس: بقايا عقب الأشياء، كالعقابيل، نقله الصاغاني عن ابن عباد، وسيأتي في عقبس
And al-'abqīs: the remnants of the end of things, like al-'aqābīl. Al-Sāghānī transmitted this from Ibn 'Abbād, and it will come in 'a q b s.
وقال غيره: يجوز أن تكون السين بدلا من اللام.
And others said: It is permissible for the sīn to be a substitute for the lām.
عبقس: من أسماء الداهية، نقله صاحب اللسان.
'Abqas: among the names of a calamity. The author of al-Lisān transmitted this.
