ثم رأيت الحافظ ضبطه هكذا
Then I saw Al-Hafiz vocalize it thus.
وقال عن ابن الصلاح: إنه هو الأشهر
And he said, quoting Ibn Al-Salah: It is the most famous.
ويدل عليه قول الشاعر: (إلا سرخس فإنها موفورة ... ما دام آل فلان في أكنافها)
And the poet's saying indicates this: (Except for Sarakhs, for it is abundant... as long as the family of so-and-so is within its borders).
ويقال أيضا بإسكان الراء وفتح الخاء، هكذا قيده ابن السمعاني
And it is also said with sukun on the ra and fatha on the kha, thus Ibn Al-Sama'ani recorded it.
وسمعت كثيرا ممن يعتمد يذكرون أنها بفتح الراء فارسية، وبإسكانها معربة
And I heard many reliable people mention that with fatha on the ra it is Persian, and with sukun it is Arabized.
وهذا حسن
And this is good.
وممن انتسب إليها من القدماء محمد بن المهلب السرخسي، شيخ أبي عبد الله الدغولي وآخرون
