And al-ru'oos, like saboor, is one whose head shakes from sleepiness, like al-raa'is, and a man has 'ra'asa' if he shakes his head in his sleep.
قال رؤبة: (علوت حين يخضع الرعوسا ... أغيد يسقي سوقه النعوسا)
Ru'ba said: (I rose high when the sleep-shaken ones bowed down ... a languid one whose gait is watered by drowsiness)
أراد بالأغيد النوم، لأنه يلين الأعناق حتى تميل.
He meant by 'aghayd' sleep, because it softens the necks until they incline.
وقيل: تحرك رأسها إذا عدت نشاطا، والشين لغة فيه.
And it was said: its head moves when it runs energetically, and 'sh' is a dialect for it.
والرعوس أيضا: الناقة السريعة رجع اليدين والقوائم، وهذه عن ابن عباد.
And al-ru'oos also: the fast-moving camel with rapid fore and hind limb movements, and this is from Ibn 'Abbad.
والرعوس من الرماح: اللدن المهزة العراص الشديد الاضطراب، كالرعاس.
And al-ru'oos from spears: the flexible, easily moved, intensely trembling one, like al-ru'aas.

In Al-Lisan: one who is tied from his leg to his head with a rope so he does not raise his head, Al-Afwah Al-Awdi said:

(He walks among the camels submissively ... in his stride the walk of the shaking-headed camel)
أو هو المضطرب في سيره، وهو الذي يهز رأسه في سيره.
Or it is one that is agitated in its gait, and it is one that shakes its head in its walk.
ويقال: بعير راعس ورعيس.
And it is said: a camel is raa'is and ru'ays.
وبه فسر بيت الأفوه السابق.
And with this the previous verse of Al-Afwah was explained.
والمرعس، كمنبر: الرجل الخسيس القشاش.
And al-mar'as, like minbar: the base, scavenging man.
والقشاش الذي يلتقط الطعام الذي لا خير فيه من المزابل، قاله ابن الأعرابي.
And al-qashshaash is one who picks up worthless food from refuse heaps, said Ibn Al-A'rabi.
وأرعسه مثل أرعشه، قال العجاج يصف سيفا:
And 'ar'asahu is like 'ar'ashahu, Al-'Ajjaj said describing a sword:
يذري بإرعاس يمين المؤتلي خضمة الدارع هذ المختلي سوق الحصاد بغروب المنجل.
It scatters with the trembling of the hand of the one who does not reach his limit, the greenness of the armored one, this one who harvests the harvest with the setting of the sickle.
ويروى بالشين.
And it is narrated with 'sh'.
يقول: يقطع معظم الدارع، وهو الذي عليه الدرع، على أن يمين الضارب به يرجف، وعلى أنه غير مجتهد في ضربه، وإنما نعت السيف بسرعة القطع.
He means: it cuts most of the armored one, who is wearing the armor, such that the striker's hand trembles, and that he is not exerting himself in his strike, but rather he describes the sword by its speed of cutting.
والمؤتلي: الذي لا) يبلغ جهده.
And al-mu'tali: one who does not reach his effort.
والمختلي: الذي يحتش بمخلاه، وهو محشه.
And al-mukhtali: one who harvests with his fodder-bag, which is his harvesting place.
والإرعاس: الارتجاف.
And al-ir'aas: trembling.
فارتعس: ارتعد واضطرب.
So he trembled: he became agitated and disturbed.
وناقة راعسة: نشيطة تهز رأسها في سيرها، عن ابن عباد.
And a raa'isah camel: energetic, shaking its head in its walk, from Ibn 'Abbad.
وبعير راعس ورعيس كذلك.
And a camel is raa'is and ru'ays likewise.
رمح رعاس، كشداد: شديد الاضطراب.
A ru'aas spear, like shaddad: intensely unstable.
وترعس: رجف واضطرب.
And tar'asa: it trembled and was agitated.
ورمح مرعوس كذلك.
And a mar'oos spear likewise.
والراعس في نومه، كالرعوس.
And al-raa'is in his sleep, like al-ru'oos.
والمرعوس من الإبل كالرعيس.
And al-mar'oos from camels is like al-ru'ays.
