الحدس: الوطء، وقد حدس برجله الشيء، إذا وطئه
Al-hadss: trampling. And he trampled a thing with his foot (hadasa bi-rijlihi ash-shay'a), if he stepped on it.
الحدس: الغلبة في الصراع، يقال: حدس بالرجل يحدسه حدسا، فهو حديس: صرعه وضرب به الأرض
Al-hadss: victory in wrestling. It is said: he overpowered a man (hadasa bir-rajuli yuhdisuhu hadsan), he is a wrestler (hadis): he threw him down and struck him on the ground.
بمعترك شط الحبيا ترى به من القوم محدوسا وآخر حادسا
In the battleground of the bank of Al-Hubya, you see among the people one who has been thrown down (mahdusan) and another who is wrestling (hadisan).

And choose the largest of them (fa'hdus).
وقوله: فاحدس، من حدست الأمور: توهمتها، كأنه يريد: تخير بوهمك عظماهن
And his saying: fa'hdus, from 'hadastu al-umur': I imagined them. As if he means: choose the largest of them with your imagination.
وحدس، محركة: قوم كانوا على عهد سيدنا سليمان عليه السلام وكانوا يعنفون على البغال
And Hadass, with haraka: a people who were during the time of our master Solomon, peace be upon him, and they used to scold the mules.
فصار زجرا لهم
So it became a deterrent for them.
وقيل: حدس وعدس: اسما بغالين على عهد سيدنا سليمان عليه السلام
And it was said: Hadass and 'Adass: names of two mules during the time of our master Solomon, peace be upon him.
والعرب تختلف في زجر البغال، فبعض يقول: حدس وبعض يقول عدس
And the Arabs differ in their calls to deter mules; some say: Hadass, and some say 'Adass.
وبنو حدس: بطن عظيم من العرب من لخم، وهو حدس بن أريش بن إراش بن جزيلة بن لخم
And Banu Hadass: a great tribe of Arabs from Lakhm, and he is Hadass ibn Arish ibn Irash ibn Jazila ibn Lakhm.
ملسا بذود الحدسي ملسا
Smoothly with the flock of Al-Hadassi, smoothly.
أو عدس، بضمتين فيهما: تابعي، وجعله الحافظ من الصحابة، في التبصير، وفيه نظر
Or 'Adass, with two dammahs in them: a Tabi'i, and Al-Hafiz considered him among the Companions, in Al-Tabsir, and there is consideration regarding this.
يقال: بلغت به الحداس، بالكسر، أي الغاية التي يجرى إليها، أو أبلغ، ولا تقل: الإداس
It is said: I reached the limit with it (balaghtu bihi al-haddas), with kasra, meaning the goal to which it is driven, or the utmost, and do not say: al-idas.

And Al-Mahdas, like Majlis: the sought-after thing.
ويقال: فلان بعيد المحدس
And it is said: So-and-so is far in his goal (ba'eed al-mahdas).
أهدي ثناء من بعيد المحدس
I send praise from a distant goal (ba'eed al-mahdas).
وتحدس الأخبار، وتحدس عنها: تخبرها وأراد أن يعلمها من حيث لا يعلم به
And he sought news (tahaddasa al-akhbar), and he sought news from it (tahaddasa 'anha): he informed himself of it and intended to know it without being known.
وتوجست، إذا كنت تريغ أخبار الناس لتعلمها من حيث لا يعلمون
And you sensed (tawajjusta), if you were seeking people's news to learn it without them knowing.
حدس الكلام على عواهنه، إذا تعسفه ولم يتوقه
He spoke words without basis (hadass al-kalam 'ala 'awahinihi), if he forced it and did not guard against it.
وقاله بالحدس، أي بالفراسة
And he said it by conjecture (bil-hads), meaning by intuition.
والحدس: النظر الخفي، ومنه: الحندس، وسيأتي
And al-hadss: the hidden glance. And from it: Al-Hindis, and it will be mentioned later.
والحدس: الضرب والذهاب في الأرض على غير هداية
And al-hadss: striking and going into the land without guidance.
