وهو قرب دمياط، تنسب إليها الثياب الفاخرة
It is near Damietta, and luxurious clothes are attributed to it.
وأما تنيس فإنها سميت بتنيس بن حام بن نوح عليه السلام
As for Tinnis, it was named after Tinnis, son of Ham, son of Noah, peace be upon him.
وكانت من أحسن بلاد الله بساتين وفواكه
And it was among the most beautiful lands of God, with orchards and fruits.
فلما مضى لدقلطيانوس من ملكه مائتان وإحدى وثلاثون سنة هجم الماء من البحر على بعض المواضع التي تسمى اليوم ببحيرة تنيس فأغرقه
When two hundred and thirty-one years of Diocletian's reign had passed, water from the sea attacked some places now called Lake Tinnis, and submerged it.
وبقيت منها بقايا، فخربها الملك الكامل محمد بن أبي بكر بن أيوب في سنة خوفا من أن يتحصن بها النصارى
Remnants remained of it, so King Al-Kamil Muhammad bin Abi Bakr bin Ayyub destroyed it in the year [blank] for fear that the Christians might fortify themselves there.
وتونس، بالضم وكسر النون، قال الصاغاني: ولو كان مهموزا لكان موضع ذكره فصل الهمزة
And Tunis, with damma on the ta and kasra on the nun, Al-Saghani said: If it were hamzated, its mention would be in the chapter of hamza.
قاعدة بلاد إفريقية قيل: إنها عمرت من أنقاض مدينة قرطاجنة
The capital of the land of Ifriqiya, it is said: it was built from the ruins of the city of Carthage.
وقد نسب إليها خلق كثير من أهل العلم، منهم الشيخ مجد الدين أبو بكر محمد التونسي شيخ القراء والأصولية والنحاة بدمشق مات سنة
And many scholars are attributed to it, among them Sheikh Majd al-Din Abu Bakr Muhammad al-Tunisi, the master of reciters, usulists, and grammarians in Damascus, who died in the year [blank].
جمال الدين محمد بن محمد التنسي، كما حققه الحافظ: محدث اسكندري، ولم يبين نسبته إلى أي شيء.
Jamal al-Din Muhammad bin Muhammad al-Tansi, as verified by Al-Hafiz: Muhaddith of Iskandari, and he did not clarify his attribution to anything.
وهي قرية بساحل إفريقية كما قاله الرشاطي، له نسل منهم جماعة فضلاء، آخرهم قاضي المالكية بمصر ناصر الدين أحمد بن التنسي
And it is a village on the coast of Ifriqiya, as Al-Rashati said. He has descendants, a group of virtuous people, the last of whom is the Maliki judge in Egypt, Nasir al-Din Ahmad bin al-Tansi.
ومن أسلافهم: أبو عبد الله محمد بن المعز التنسي، ذكره منصور في الذيل
And among their ancestors: Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Al-Mu'izz al-Tansi, mentioned by Mansur in the appendix.
إبراهيم بن عبد الرحمن التنسي، سمع من وهب بن ميسرة، وكان يفتي، مات سنة
Ibrahim bin Abd al-Rahman al-Tansi, heard from Wahb bin Maysarah, and he used to issue fatwas, died in the year [blank].
أن تنس من أعمال تلمسان، ونسب إليها محمد بن عبد الله التنسي من القرن التاسع.
That Tinnis is from the districts of Tlemcen, and Muhammad bin Abdullah al-Tansi from the ninth century is attributed to it.
تناس الناس، بالضم: رعاعهم، عن كراع، هكذا نقله صاحب اللسان، قال: ولم يعرفه الأزهري.
Tanas al-nas, with damma: their rabble, according to Kurra', thus was it transmitted by the author of Al-Lisan, who said: Al-Azhari did not know it.
