Metaphorically: Al-nahizah: a narrow, firm strip of land, or a dark, elongated strip of sand resembling a line, level with the ground, rough, not exceeding two cubits in width, it is merely a mark on the ground.
أو قطعة منها، كالطبة، ممدودة في بطن الأرض نحوا من ميل أو أكثر، تقود الفراسخ وأقل من ذلك.
Or a piece of it, like a plug, extending into the earth for about a mile or more, leading for farsakhs and less than that.
وقال أبو خيرة: النحيزة: الحبل المنقاد في الأرض.
And Abu Khayrah said: Al-nahizah: the rope that leads in the ground.
وقال غيره: النحيزة: المسناة في الأرض، وقيل: مثل المسناة. وقيل: هي السهلة.
And others said: Al-nahizah: the embankment in the ground, and it was said: like an embankment. And it was said: it is the easy path.
قال أبو عمرو: النحيزة: نسيجة شبه الحزام تكون على الفساطيط والبيوت تنسج وحدها فكأن النحائز من الطرق مشبهة به.
Abu 'Amr said: Al-nahizah: a woven piece resembling a belt that is on tents and houses, woven by itself, so the nahā'iz of paths are likened to it.
وقال غيره: النحيزة: طرة تنسج ثم تخاط على شفة الشقة من شقق الخباء.
And others said: Al-nahizah: a strip that is woven then sewn onto the edge of a tent flap.
وقيل: النحيزة من الشعر: هنة عرضها شبر، وطويلة، يعلقونها على الهودج، يزينونه بها، وربما رقموها بالعهن.
And it was said: Al-nahizah of hair: something a span wide, and long, they hang it on the howdah, decorating it with it, and sometimes they dye it with wool.
وقيل: هي مثل الحزام بيضاء.
And it was said: it is like a white belt.
النحيزة: واد بديار غطفان، عن أبي موسى.
Al-nahizah: a valley in the land of Ghatafan, from Abu Musa.

والنحائز: الإبل المضروبة، واحدتها نحيزة.
And al-nahā'iz: the afflicted camels, their singular is nahizah.
ونحز النسيجة: جذب الصيصة ليحكم اللحمة.

والنحز من عيوب الخيل: هو أن تكون الواهنة ليست بملتئمة، فيعظم ما والاها من جلد السرة لوصول ما في البطن إلى الجلد، فذلك في موضع السرة يدعى النحز، وفي غير ذلك الموضع يدعى الفتق.
And al-nahz from the defects of horses: is when the navel opening is not closed, so what is adjacent to it from the skin of the navel enlarges due to the contents of the abdomen reaching the skin; that in the navel area is called al-nahz, and in other places it is called al-fatq (rupture).
والنحز أيضا: السعال عامة.
And al-nahz also: coughing, generally.
ونحز الرجل: سعل.
And the man coughed: he coughed.
