And the awl (with kasra) is what is used to pierce leather.

عَنِ ابْنِ الأَعْرَابِيِّ: خَرَزَ الرَّجُلُ خَرْزًا، كَفَرِحَ فَرِحًا، إِذَا أَحْكَمَ أَمْرَهُ بَعْدَ ضَعْفٍ.
From Ibn al-A'rabi: A man achieved his affairs, like faraha (achieved), a kharzan, like fariha (achieved), when he perfected his matter after weakness.
وَالخُرْزَةُ، مُحَرَّكَةً: وَاحِدَةُ الخُرْزَاتِ: فُصُوصٌ مِنْ حِجَارَةٍ، وَقِيلَ فُصُوصٌ مِنْ جَيِّدِ الجَوْهَرِ وَرَدِيئِهِ مِنَ الحِجَارَةِ.
And the khurzah, vocalized with harakat: one of the khurzat: pieces of stone, and it is said pieces of good and bad jewels of stone.
وَالخُرْزَةُ أَيْضًا اسْمُ مَا يُنْظَمُ، جَمْعُهُ خُرْزَاتٌ.
And the khurzah is also the name for what is strung, its plural is khurzat.
وَفِي بَعْضِ الأُصُولِ: حَمْضَةٌ مِنَ النَّجِيلِ يَرْتَفِعُ قَدْرَ الذِّرَاعِ خَضْرَاءُ تَرْتَفِعُ خَيْطَانًا مِنْ أَصْلٍ وَاحِدٍ لَا وَرَقَ لَهُ لَكِنَّهُ مَنْظُومٌ مِنْ أَعْلَاهُ إِلَى أَسْفَلِهِ حَبًّا مُدَوَّرًا أَخْضَرَ فِي غَيْرِ عَلَاقَةٍ كَأَنَّهُ خَرَزٌ مَنْظُومٌ فِي سِلْكٍ، نَقَلَهُ أَبُو حَنِيفَةَ فِي كِتَابِ النَّبَاتِ عَنْ بَعْضِ أَعْرَابِ عُمَّانَ، قَالَ: وَهِيَ تَقْتُلُ الإِبِلَ وَمَنَابِتُهَا مَنَابِتُ الحَمْضِ.
And in some manuscripts: a sour plant from the grass that rises about a cubit, green, rising in threads from one root, without leaves, but it is strung from top to bottom with round green seeds without attachment, as if they were beads strung on a wire, narrated by Abu Hanifa in the Book of Plants from some Bedouins of Oman, he said: and it kills camels and its habitats are the habitats of sour plants.
وَالخُرْزَةُ: مَاءَةٌ لِفَزَارَةَ، بَيْنَ دِيَارِهِمْ وَدِيَارِ أَسَدٍ.
And the khurzah: a water source for Fazarah, between their lands and the lands of Asad.
المُخْرَزُ، كَمُعَظَّمٍ: كُلُّ طَائِرٍ مِنَ الحَمَامِ وَغَيْرِهِ عَلَى جَنَاحَيْهِ نَمْنَمَةٌ وَتَحْبِيرٌ كَالخَرَزِ.

مِنَ المَجَازِ: أُوتِيَ فُلَانٌ خَرَزَاتُ المَلِكِ، أَيْ سِتِّينَ حُجَّةً، وَهِيَ فِي الأَصْلِ جَوَاهِرُ تَاجِهِ، وَيُقَالُ: كَانَ فِي المَلِكِ إِذَا مَلَكَ عَامًا زِيدَتْ فِي تَاجِهِ خُرْزَةٌ لِتُعْلَمَ بِذَلِكَ سَنَوُ مُلْكِهِ.
From metaphors: So-and-so was given the kharzat of the king, meaning sixty years, and they are originally the jewels of his crown, and it is said: when a king ruled for a year, a khurzah was added to his crown so that the years of his reign would be known.
رَعَى خَرَزَاتِ المَلِكِ عِشْرِينَ حُجَّةً وَعِشْرِينَ حَتَّى فَادَ وَالشَّيْبُ شَامِلٌ.
He grazed the kharzat of the king for twenty years and twenty until he recovered and old age was encompassing.
خَرَزُ الظَّهْرِ: فَقَارُهُ، وَكُلُّ فَقْرَةٍ مِنَ الظَّهْرِ وَالعُنُقِ خُرْزَةٌ.
The kharaz of the back: its vertebrae, and every vertebra of the back and neck is a khurzah.
وَخُرْزَةُ الظَّهْرِ: مَا بَيْنَ فَقْرَتَيْنِ، وَهُوَ مَجَازٌ.
And the khurzah of the back: what is between two vertebrae, and it is a metaphor.
وَفِي المَثَلِ: اجْمَعْ سَيْرَيْنِ فِي خُرْزَةٍ.
And in the proverb: Combine two journeys in one khurzah.
أَيْ اقْضِ حَاجَتَيْنِ فِي حَاجَةٍ.
Meaning fulfill two needs in one task.
وَقَالُوا: كَلَامُ فُلَانٍ كَخَرَزِ الإِمَاءِ، أَيْ مُتَفَاوِتٌ: دُرَّةٌ وَوَدَعَةٌ.
And they said: So-and-so's speech is like the sewing of slave women, meaning uneven: a pearl and a shell.
وَخَرَزَةٌ يُقَالُ لَهَا خَرَزَةُ العَقَرَةِ تُشَدُّهَا المَرْأَةُ عَلَى حَقْوَيْهَا لِئَلَّا تَحْمِلَ.
And a khurzah called the khurzat al-'aqarah which a woman ties around her hips so that she does not become pregnant.
