قال الزمخشري: وهو ما يجلز به، أي يعصب، من عقب وغيره.

Al-Zamakhshari said: It is what is used to bind with, meaning to tie, whether it's a tail-end or something else.

والجلائز: عقبات تلوى على كل موضع من القوس، واحدها جلاز وجلازة، بكسرهما، قال الشماخ: (مدل بزرق لا يداوي رميها ... وصفراء من نبع عليها الجلائز)

And الجلائز: bindings twisted onto every part of the bow. Its singular is جلاز and جلازة, with a kasra for both. Al-Shammakh said: (Carrying a blue one whose arrows he does not heal... and a yellow one from a spring, upon which are the الجلائز).

إذا كان الرجل معصوب الخلق واللحم قيل: رجل مجلوز اللحم والخلق، ومنه اشتق ناقة جلس، السين بدل من الزاي، وهي الوثيقة الخلق.

If a man is tightly built in his creation and flesh, it is said: 'A man مجلوز in flesh and creation.' From this is derived the camel 'jals' (with sin instead of zayn), meaning tightly built.

من المجاز: رجل مجلوز الرأي، أي محكمه، نقله الصاغاني.

From figurative speech: A man مجلوز in opinion, meaning firm in it. Al-Saghani narrated this.

والجلواز، بالكسر: الشرطي، أو هو الثؤرور، ج الجلاوزة، وجلوزتهم: شدة سعيهم بين يدي الأمير، قاله الزمخشري، وفي سجعاته: المراوزة أكثرهم جلاوزة.

And الجلواز, with a kasra: the policeman, or it is the running ahead. Plural الجلاوزة. And جلوزتهم: their intense running before the prince. Al-Zamakhshari said this. And in his proverbs: 'The runners are most of them جلاوزة.'

And الجلوز, like سنور: the pistachio nut, an Arabic word narrated by Sibawayh.

ونقل الأزهري في ترجمة شكر: والجلوز: نبت له حب إلى الطول ما هو، ويؤكل مخه، شبه الفستق، وقال صاحب المنهاج: جلوز هو حب الصنوبر الكبار.

Al-Azhari narrated in the entry for 'shukr': And الجلوز: a plant with long seeds, its kernel is eaten, resembling a pistachio. And the author of Al-Minhaj said: جلوز is the large pine nut.

قال عدي: (أبلغ أبا قابوس إذ جلز الن ... زع ولم يوجد لخطبي سر)

Adiyy said: (Inform Abu Qabus when he drew the ... bowstring, and there was no joy for my plight).

جلز تجليزا: ذهب مسرعا، قاله أبو عمرو، وقد تقدم ذلك بعينه، فهو تكرار.

جلز تجليزا: went quickly. Abu Amr said this, and it has been mentioned before, so it is a repetition.

جلز رأسه بردائه جلزا: عصبه، قال النابغة: يحث الحداة جالزا بردائه

جلز his head with his cloak, جلزا: he tied it. Al-Nabighah said: Urging the drivers, جالزا with his cloak.

قال المتنخل الهذلي: (هل أجزينكما يوما بقرضكما ... والقرض بالقرض مجزي ومجلوز)

Al-Mutanakhkhil al-Hudhali said: (Shall I ever repay you both for your debt... And debt for debt is settled and مجلوز).

Al-Nadr said: I جلز the thing to the thing, if you join it to it. And he recited: (I fulfilled one need and جلزت another... as الفشاغ جلز upon the branches).

واجلأز، أي أشرأب، وهذه الثلاثة الأخيرة عن الصاغاني.
