The man jarmuz: he retreated. In the hadith of al-Sha'bi, when a fatwa about divorce reached him from Ikrimah, he said: 'Jarmuz, the freedman of Ibn Abbas.' Meaning he retreated from the answer and fled from it, and shrank back from it.

And al-jaramiz, as written in the manuscripts, and the correct reading is: al-jaramiz: the limbs of a wild animal and its body.

Or a dark one carrying its limbs... a swift one moving in the burrows.

الجراميز أيضا: بدن الإنسان جملة، وبه فسر حديث عمر رضي الله عنه: أنه كان يجمع جراميزه ويثب على الفرس،

Al-jaramiz also: the entire body of a human. With this, the hadith of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, is explained: that he used to gather his limbs and leap onto the horse.

وقيل: رماه بجراميزه، أي بنفسه.

And it was said: 'He threw himself at it with his jaramiz,' meaning with his self.

وقال أبو زيد: رمى فلان الأرض بجراميزه وأرواقه، إذا رمى بنفسه.

And Abu Zayd said: 'So-and-so threw himself upon the ground with his jaramiz and arwaq, meaning he threw himself.

ويقال: جمع جراميزه، إذا انقبض ليثب، يقال: أخذه بجراميزه وحذافيره، أي أجمع.

And it is said: 'He gathered his jaramiz,' meaning he contracted to leap. It is said: 'He took him by his jaramiz and hadhafirs,' meaning completely.

And tajramaz upon them: he fell. And tajramaz the night: it passed.

Say to Al-Muhallab, if a calamity befalls you, call upon Al-Ashaqir and rise with Al-Jaramiz.

And shorter than it: a mujrimz year: there is no rain at its beginning, but he followed Al-Saghani in what he narrated and differed with him in his statement 'then the water gathers.' His text is: 'then the rain gathers'.

قال: ضم فلان إليه جراميزه، إذا رفع ما انتشر من ثيابه ثم مضى.

He said: 'So-and-so gathered his jaramiz to himself,' meaning he gathered what had spread of his clothes and then proceeded.

وتجرمز، إذا اجتمع.

And tajramaz, meaning he gathered.

وجرمز الرجل: أخطأ في الجواب.

And the man jarmuz: he erred in the answer.

والجرماز، بالكسر: بناء عظيم كان عند أبيض المدائن، وقد عفا أثره.

And al-jarmaz, with kasr: a great structure that was near the white palaces of al-Mada'in, whose trace has now vanished.
