And Banu al-Ashra': a people from Fazarah, and they are from Banu Mazin ibn Fazarah, and his name was Amr ibn Jabir, and he was named al-Ashra' after Manzur ibn Zaban ibn Sayyar ibn al-Ashra'.
والعشراء: القلة، بالضم وتخفيف اللام المفتوحة.
And al-Ushra': the summit, with dammah and a lightened, open lam.
وعشوراء بالمد، وعشار وتعشار، بكسرهما، أسماء مواضع، الأخير بالدهناء.

They were overcome in a barren land towards Ta'shar.

We have camels among whom panic is unknown, grazing in Ta'shar, its pastures and its enclosures.
وفيت وفاء لم ير الناس مثله ... بتعشار إذ تحبو إلى الأكابر
I fulfilled a fulfillment that people have not seen its like, in Ta'shar, when crawling towards the elders.
وذو العشيرة: ع بالصمان معروف، فيه عشرة نابتة، قال عنترة في وصف الظليم: (صعل يعود بذي العشيرة بيضه ... كالعبد ذي الفرو الطويل الأصلم)
And Dhu al-Ushayrah: a known place in Al-Summan, with ten plants growing in it. Antarah said in description of the ostrich: (A swift one returning to Dhu al-Ushayrah with its eggs... like a slave with long, smooth fur).
ويقال فيه العشير، بغير هاء أيضا، وضبط بالسين المهملة أيضا، وقد تقدم.
And it is also called al-Ushir, without the ha', and it is also recorded with the unpointed sin, and it has been mentioned before.
والمعشر، كمحدث: من أنتجت إبله، ومن صارت إبله عشارا، أوردهما الصاغاني، واستشهد للثاني بقول مقاس بن عمرو:
And al-Mi'shar, like muhdath: one whose camels have given birth, and one whose camels have become pregnant (ashshara), both are mentioned by Al-Sagani, and he cited the second with the saying of Maqas ibn Amr:
ليختلطن العام راع مجنب ... إذا ما تلاقينا براع معشر
This year, a shepherd will mix with a shepherd whose camels are not producing milk... when we meet, with a shepherd whose camels are producing milk.
يقول: ليس لنا لبن، فنحن نغير عليكم فنأخذ إبلكم فيختلط بعضها ببعض.
He says: We have no milk, so we raid you and take your camels, and they become mixed together.
وعن ابن شميل: الأعشر: الأحمق، قال الأزهري: لم يروه لي ثقة أعتمده.
And from Ibn Shumayl: Al-A'shar: the foolish. Al-Azhari said: I have not narrated it from a trustworthy person I rely on.
ويقال: ذهبوا عشاريات وعساريات بالشين والسين، إذا ذهبوا أيادي سبا متفرقين في كل وجه.
And it is said: They went 'ashariyat and 'asariyat with the shin and the sin, meaning they went scattered in every direction.
والعاشرة: حلقة التعشير من عواشر المصحف، وهي لفظة مولدة، صرح به ابن منظور والصاغاني.
And al-'Ashirah: the chapter marker for the tenth part of the Quran, and it is a neologism, as stated by Ibn Manzur and Al-Sagani.
والعشر، بالضم: النوق التي تنزل الدرة القليلة من غير أن تجتمع قال الشاعر: (حلوب لعشر الشول في ليلة الصبا ... سريع إلى الأضياف قبل التأمل)
And al-'Ushr, with dammah: the she-camels that yield a small amount of milk without being milked collectively. The poet said: (A milker for 'ushr of the she-camels in a youthful night... quick to guests before consideration).

And it was said: Al-Mi'shar is the plural of al-'ushir, and al-'ushir is the plural of al-'ashr. And according to this, al-Mi'shar would be one in a thousand, because it is a tenth of a tenth of a tenth, as our shaykh said.
وأعشر الرجل: وردت إبله العشر.
And a'shara the man: his camels yielded little milk.
وأعشروا: صاروا عشرة.
And a'sharaw: they became ten.
وأعشرت العدد: جعلته عشرة.
And a'shartu al-'adad: I made it ten.
وأعشروا: صاروا في عشر ذي الحجة، كذا في التهذيب لابن القطاع.
And a'sharaw: they entered the tenth of Dhu al-Hijjah, as in Al-Tahdhib by Ibn Al-Qatta'.
ويقال: أعشرنا منذ لم نلتق، أي أتى علينا عشر ليال.
And it is said: A'sharna since we last met, meaning ten nights have passed for us.
اللهم عشر خطاي: أي اكتب لكل خطوة عشر حسنات.
O Allah, 'ashir my steps: meaning write for each step ten good deeds.
والعشائر: الظباء الحديثات العهد بالنتاج.
And al-'Asha'ir: gazelles that have recently given birth.
همل عشائره على أولادها ... من راشح متقوب وفطيم
Its young ones (gazelles) scattered over their offspring... from the weak and the strong, and the weaned.
كأن العشائر هنا في هذا المعنى جمع عشار، وعشائر هو جمع الجمع، كما يقال: جمال وجمائل، وحبال وحبائل.
It is as if al-'Asha'ir here, in this meaning, is the plural of 'ushar, and 'asha'ir is the plural of the plural, as it is said: jamal and jama'il, hubal and haba'il.
وعشر الحب قلبه، إذا أضناه.
And 'ashara the heart of the lover, if it exhausts him.
والعواشر: قوادم ريش الطائر، وكذلك الأعشار، قال الأعشى: (وإذا ما طغى بها الجري فالعق ... بان تهوي كواسشر الأعشار)
And al-'Awashir: the primary flight feathers of a bird, and likewise al-A'shar. Al-A'sha said: (And when the running becomes excessive, the wing feathers descend like the 'awashir of the a'shar).
ويقال لثلاث من ليالي الشهر: عشر، وهي بعد التسع.
And it is said for three nights of the month: 'ashr, and they are after the ninth.
وعشرت القوم تعشيرا، إذا كانوا تسعة وزدت واحدا حتى تمت العشرة.
And 'ashartu al-qawm ta'shiran, if they were nine and you added one until the ten was complete.
والأعصم، والأوشح، فالأصدأ: الأسود العين والعنق والظهر، وسائر جسده أحمر: والعشر: المرقع بالبياض والحمرة.
And al-A'sam, and al-Awshakh. Al-Asda': black-eyed, black-necked, and black-backed, and the rest of its body is red: And al-'ashr: the mottled one with white and red.
قلت: وقال ابن الكلبي في أنساب العرب: إنما سمى سعد العشيرة لأنه لم يمت حتى ركب معه من ولد ولد ولده ثلاثمائة رجل.
I say: And Ibn Al-Kalbi said in the Genealogies of the Arabs: He was only named Sa'd al-Ushayrah because he did not die until three hundred men from his grandchildren rode with him.
وعشائر وعشرون، وعشيرة، وعشورى، مواضع.
And 'Asha'ir, and 'Ishrun, and 'Ushayrah, and 'Ushura, are places.
وعشر كزفر: واد بالحجاز، وقيل: شعب لهذيل قرب مكة عند نخلة اليمانية.
And 'Ashr like Zufar: a valley in Al-Hijaz, and it was said: a gorge for Hudhayl near Mecca by Nakhlah Al-Yamaniyyah.
وذو عشر: واد بين البصرة ومكة، من ديار تميم، ثم لبني مازن بن مالك بن عمرو، وأيضا واد في نجد.
And Dhu 'Ashr: a valley between Basra and Mecca, from the lands of Tamim, then belonging to Banu Mazin ibn Malik ibn Amr, and also a valley in Najd.
