And in a hadith: May Allah curse the seller and buyer of 'al-'irrah'.
وَفِي حَدِيثِ طَاوُسٍ: إِذَا اسْتَعَر عَلَيْكُمْ شَيْءٌ مِنَ الْغَنَمِ: أَيْ نَدَ وَاسْتَعْصَى، مِنَ الْعَرَارَةِ، وَهِيَ الشِّدَّةُ وَسُوءُ الْخُلُقِ.
And in the hadith of Tawus: If something from the sheep becomes scarce ('ista'arra') among you: meaning it becomes rare and stubborn, from 'al-'ararah', which is hardship and bad disposition.
وَالْعَرَائِرُ: أَطْرَافُ الْأَسْنِمَةِ، فِي قَوْلِ الْكُمَيْتِ: (سَلْفَى نِزَارٍ إِذْ تَحَوَّلَتِ الْمَنَاسِمُ كَالْعَرَائِرِ)
And 'al-'ara'ir' are the tips of the humps, in the saying of Al-Kumait: (The remnants of Nizar when the humps shifted like the tips of humps)
وَالْعَرَارَةُ: الْجَرَادَةُ قِيلَ: وَبِهَا سُمِّيَتْ فَرَسُ الْكِلْحَبَّةِ، قَالَ بِشْرٌ: عَرَارَةٌ هَبْوَةٌ فِيهَا اصْفِرَارٌ.
And 'al-'ararah' is the locust. It is said: And by it was named the mare of Al-Kilhabbah. Bishr said: 'Ararah' is a dust cloud with a yellowish tint.
وَيُقَالُ: هُوَ فِي عَرَارَةِ خَيْرٍ، أَيْ فِي أَصْلِ خَيْرٍ.
And it is said: He is in 'ararah' of good, meaning in the origin of good.
وَقَالَ الْفَرَّاءُ: عَرَّرْتُ بِكَ حَاجَتِي: أَنْزَلْتُهَا.
And Al-Farra' said: 'Arrartu bik hajati': I brought it down (fulfilled my need).
وَعُرَارٌ، كَسَحَابٍ: اسْمُ رَجُلٍ، وَهُوَ عُرَارُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ شَأْسٍ الْأَسَدِيُّ، قَالَ فِيهِ أَبُوهُ: (وَإِنَّ عُرَارًا إِنْ يَكُنْ غَيْرَ وَاضِحٍ فَإِنِّي أُحِبُّ الْجَوْنَ ذَا الْمَنْكِبِ الْعَمَمِ)
And 'Urrar', like 'suhab': is the name of a man, and he is 'Urrar bin Amr bin Sha's Al-Asadi, about whom his father said: (And if 'Urrar' is not clear, then indeed I love the dark one with the broad shoulder)
وَالْعَرَارَةُ، بِالْفَتْحِ: مَوْضِعٌ.
And 'al-'ararah', with the fatha: is a place.
وَعَرِّرْ بَعِيرَكَ: أَيْ أَدْنِهِ إِلَى الْمَاءِ.
