اشتداد الرمح وغيره، واضطرابه واهتزازه، كالعتران محركة
The intensity, disturbance, and shaking of a spear and other things, like 'al-'utran' (with vowels).
ويقال: عتر الرمح يعتر، إذا تراجع في اهتزازه
It is said: 'atar al-rumh ya'tir', meaning the spear wavered in its shaking.
وكل خطي إذا هز عتر
And every Khat al-rumh, when shaken, wavers.
ويقال: سيف باتر، ورمح عاتر، وهو المضطرب، مثل العاسل
It is said: a sharp sword, and a wavering spear, which is the disturbed one, like the one that buzzes.
وقد عتر، وعسل، وعرت، وعرص
And it has been described as 'atar', 'asal', 'arat', and 'aras'.
والعتر: إنعاظ الذكر، كالعتور
And 'al-'atr' is the erection of the male organ, like 'al-'utur'.
وقد عتر عتورا: اشتد أنعاظه واهتزازه
And he experienced 'uturan': his erection and shaking intensified.
والعتر: الذبح، يعتر في الكل
And 'al-'atr' is slaughter, which is 'ya'tir' in all cases.
يقال: عتر الرمح يعتر عترا، وعتر الذكر يعتر عتورا، وعتر الشاة والظبية ونحوهما يعترها عترا: ذبحها
It is said: the spear wavered with 'atran', the male organ became erect with 'uturan', and the sheep, gazelle, and similar were slaughtered with 'atran': meaning they were slaughtered.
والعتر، بالفتح: الذكر، ويكسر، كالعتار
And 'al-'atr', with fatha, is the male organ, and with damma, like 'al-'atar'.
وكأنه شبه بالرمح العاتر
As if it were likened to a wavering spear.
والعتر، بالكسر: الأصل
And 'al-'atr', with kasra, is the origin.
عادت إلى عترها لميس
Lamees returned to her origin.
لا بأس للمحرم أن يتداوى بالسنا والعتر
There is no harm for the pilgrim in treating himself with senna and 'al-'atr'.
فإذا بلغت مائة ضن بالغنم فصاد ظبيا فذبحه
And when his camels reached a hundred, he was stingy with the sheep and hunted a gazelle and slaughtered it.
فزل عنها وأوفى رأس مرقبة كناصب العتر دمى رأسه النسك
So he slipped away from it and climbed to the top of a watchtower, like one who erects an idol, his head dripping with devotion.
وهي ذبيحة كانت تذبح في رجب يتقرب بها أهل الجاهلية
It was a sacrifice that was slaughtered in Rajab, by which the people of the pre-Islamic era sought to draw near (to their gods).
عننا باطلا وظلما كما تع تر عن حجرة الربيض الظباء
They wronged us with falsehood and injustice, just as gazelles are driven away from the enclosure of the resting place.
والعتر: قبيلة من بلي، أبوهم عتر بن جشم
And 'al-'atr' is a tribe from Bali, their father is 'Atr ibn Jusham.
ومنهم عبد الرحمان بن عديس بن عمرو بن عبيد البلوي العتري الصحابي، بايع تحت الشجرة
Among them is Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Udays ibn 'Amr ibn 'Ubayd al-Balawi al-'Utari, the companion, who pledged allegiance under the tree.
وكان أميرا لجيش القادمين من مصر لحصار عثمان
And he was the commander of the army coming from Egypt to besiege Uthman.
والعتر: نصاب المسحاة وغيرها، أو هي الخشبة المعترضة في المسحاة يعتمد عليها الحافر برجله
And 'al-'atr' is the shaft of a spade and other tools, or it is the crossbeam in the spade on which the hoof relies with its foot.
وقيل: عترة المسحاة: خشبتها التي تسمى يد المسحاة
And it is said: the 'utrat al-misḥāh is its wooden handle, which is called the hand of the spade.
والعتر: الهذيان أو شبهه
And 'al-'atr' is delirium or something similar.
وسليم بن عتر التجيبي: قاضي مصر
And Sulaym ibn 'Atr al-Tujibi: the judge of Egypt.
وفضيل بن مرزوق: مولى بني عتر
And Fudayl ibn Marzuq: a freedman of the Banu 'Atr.
والعتر، بضمتين: الفروج المنعظة، جمع عاتر وعتور
And 'al-'utur', with two dammahs: the erect private parts, plural of 'a'tir' and 'utur'.
والعتر، بالتحريك: الشدة والقوة في جميع الحيوان
And 'al-'atr', with harakah: intensity and strength in all animals.
وسمي عتر بن عامر بن عذر: جد لأبي موسى الأشعري
And 'Atr ibn 'Amir ibn 'Adhr was named: the grandfather of Abu Musa al-Ash'ari.
والعتار: ككتان: الرجل الشجاع، والفرس القوي على السير
And 'al-'attar', like 'kattan': the brave man, and the strong horse capable of travel.
والمكان الخشن التربة الوحش المنظر
And a place with rough soil and a wild appearance.
والعترة، بالكسر: قلادة تعجن بالمسك والأفاويه، على التشبيه بالعترة، وهي قطعة مسك خالصة
And 'al-'atrah', with kasra: a necklace kneaded with musk and perfumes, by analogy with 'al-'atrah', which is a piece of pure musk.
والعترة: نسل الرجل وأقرباؤه من ولد وغيره
And 'al-'atrah': a person's offspring and his relatives, from children and others.
وقيل: عترة الرجل: رهطه وعشيرته الأدنون ممن مضى وغبر
And it is said: a man's 'atrah: his closest relatives and kin from those who have passed and gone.
نحن عترة رسول الله صلى الله تعالى عليه وسلم التي خرج منها، وبيضته التي تفقأت عنه
We are the progeny of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) from whom he emerged, and his egg from which he hatched.
وإنما جيبت العرب عنا كما جيبت الرحى عن قطبها
And the Arabs were only separated from us as the millstone is separated from its pivot.
والعامة تظن أنها ولد الرجل خاصة
And the common people think it is specifically a man's children.
والعترة: أشر الأسنان
And 'al-'atrah': the worst of teeth.
وعترة الثغر: دقة في غروبه، ونقاء وماء يجري عليه
And the 'utrat al-thughr: a delicacy in its gums, and clarity and moisture that flows over it.
تفلغ رأسي كما تفلغ العترة
It splits my head as 'al-'atrah' splits.
والعترة: قثاء الأصف، وهو الكبر
And 'al-'atrah': the cucumbers of Asaf, which is capers.
ويقال: هو أذل من عترة الضب
And it is said: it is more humble than the 'utrat al-dabb.
والعترة: الريقة العذبة
And 'al-'atrah': the sweet saliva.
والعترة: القطعة من المسك الخالص
And 'al-'atrah': the piece of pure musk.
والعتوارة، بالكسر: القطعة من المسك
And 'al-'utwarah', with kasra: the piece of musk.
والعتوارة: الرجل القصير المكتنز اللحم
And 'al-'utwarah': the short, stocky man.
ومن حي عتوار ومن تعتورا
From the tribe of 'Atwar and from those who resemble them.
وتعتور الرجل: تشبه بهم، أو انتسب إليهم
And 'ta'attur' a man: to resemble them, or to claim lineage from them.
وعاتر: اسم امرأة
And 'A'atir: the name of a woman.
وعترة، بالضم، بن عامر بن كعب: بطن من عجل
And 'Utratu ibn 'Amir ibn Ka'b: a branch of 'Ijl.
وعتر، كزفر: بن حبيب في نسب هوازن
And 'Atr, like 'zufr': ibn Habib in the lineage of Hawazin.
ومحمد بن عتيرة الفزاري كسفينة: محدث
And Muhammad ibn 'Utayrah al-Fazari, like 'safinah': a hadith narrator.
وقلعة عمارة بن عتير، كزبير: بفارس
And the fortress of 'Imarah ibn 'Utayr, like 'zubayr': in Fars.
وعتير، كزبير: صحابي بدري
And 'Utayr, like 'zubayr': a companion who participated in the Battle of Badr.
وقال المبرد: عتور، بالراء، كدرهم: اسم واد خشن المسلك، من العتر، وهو الشدة
And al-Mubarrad said: 'Atur, with ra, like 'dirham': the name of a valley with a difficult path, from 'al-'atr', which means intensity.
رجل معتر، كمعظم: غليظ كثير اللحم
A man 'mu'tar', like 'mu'azzam': stout and fleshy.
ورجل معتر: شرير
And a man 'mu'tar': wicked.
فخر صريعا مثل عاترة النسك
He fell dead like a sacrificial offering.
والعتر، بالكسر: المذبوح
And 'al-'atr', with kasra: the slaughtered one.
هاذه أيام ترجيب وتعتار
These are days of Rajab and 'ta'tar'.
وعتر المرأة عترا: نكحها
And 'atar al-mar'ah 'atran': he had intercourse with her.
والعترة: ساق الشجرة
And 'al-'atrah': the trunk of the tree.
وأغصان الشجرة: عترتها، وعمودها الشجرة
And the branches of the tree: its 'utratah, and its trunk is the tree.
ومعتر، كمنبر: اسم رجل
And 'Mu'tar', like 'minbar': the name of a man.
وفي الحديث: ذكر العتر، وهو بالكسر جبل بالمدينة من جهة القبلة
And in the hadith: 'al-'atr' is mentioned, which with kasra is a mountain in Medina from the direction of the Qibla.
وفي خزاعة عترة بن عمرو بن أفصى، بالفتح
And in Khuz'ah, 'Atr ibn 'Amr ibn Afsa, with fatha.
وعتر بن بكر بن تيم اللات بن رفيدة، كزفر
And 'Atr ibn Bakr ibn Taym al-Lat ibn Rufaydah, like 'zufr'.
ومحمد بن عترة الموصلي، بالكسر، يروي عن محمد بن أحمد بن أبي المنى
And Muhammad ibn 'Atrah al-Mawsili, with kasra, narrates from Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Abi al-Muna.
وحفيده عبد القادر بن محمد بن محمد، نزيل بغداد، معروف
And his grandson Abd al-Qadir ibn Muhammad ibn Muhammad, residing in Baghdad, is known.
ومعتر بن بولان، كمنبر، في طيىء
And 'Mu'tar ibn Bul'an, like 'minbar', in Tayy.
وبنته عقدة بنت معتر
And his daughter 'Uqdah bint Mu'tar.
وأبو كعب بن مسعود بن معتر، ذكره ابن حبيب
And Abu Ka'b ibn Mas'ud ibn Mu'tar, mentioned by Ibn Habib.
