أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ الأَنْصَارِيُّ، وَالخَطِيبُ أَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ المَاسِحُ الأَصْبَهَانِيُّ، تَلَا عَلَيْهِ الهُذَلِيُّ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ شَيْخٌ لإِسْمَاعِيلَ التَّمِيمِيُّ، وَعَبْدُ العَزِيزِ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ، وَأَبُو مُحَمَّدٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَلِيٍّ، الطَّيْرَانِيُّونَ المُحْدَثُونَ.
Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Ubayd Allah al-Ansari, and Al-Khatib Abu Muhammad Abdullah bin Muhammad al-Masah al-Isfahani, upon whom Al-Hudhayli and Muhammad bin Abdullah, the shaykh of Ismail al-Tamimi, and Abdul Aziz bin Ahmad, and Abu Muhammad Ahmad bin Muhammad bin Ali, the modern Tayranis, recited.
وَأَطَارَ المَالَ وَطَيَّرَهُ بَيْنَ القَوْمِ: قَسَّمَهُ، فَطَارَ لِكُلٍّ مِنْهُمْ سَهْمُهُ، أَيْ صَارَ لَهُ، وَخَرَجَ لَهُ بِهِ سَهْمُهُ.
And he distributed the money and divided it among the people: he divided it, so each of them got his share, meaning it became his, and his share came out for him.
تَطَيَّرُ عَدَائِدُ الأَشْرَاكِ شَفْعًا وَوِتْرًا وَالزَّعَامَةُ لِلْغُلَامِ وَالأَشْرَاكُ: الأَنْصِبَاءُ.
The shares of the lots are distributed in pairs and singly, and leadership belongs to the young man, and al-ashrak means the portions.
فَأَطَرْتُ الحُلَّةَ بَيْنَ نِسَائِي
I divided the garment among my wives.
وَالطَّائِرُ: فَرَسٌ لِقَتَادَةَ بْنِ جَرِيرٍ السَّدُوسِيِّ.
And Al-Tair: a horse of Qatada bin Jarir al-Sadusi.
وَالطَّيَّارُ: فَرَسٌ لِأَبِي رَيْسَانَ الخَوْلَانِيِّ.
And Al-Tayyar: a horse of Abi Risan al-Khulani.
لَقَدْ فَضَّلَ الطَّيَّارُ فِي الخَيْلِ أَنَّهُ يَكِرُّ إِذَا خَاسَتْ خُيُولٌ وَيَحْمِلُ وَيَمْضِي عَلَى المَرَانِ وَالعَضْبِ مُقَدَّمًا وَيَحْمِي وَيُحْمِيهِ الشَّهَابِيُّ مِنْ عَلٍ.
Indeed, Al-Tayyar was distinguished among horses; he charges when other horses falter, he carries on, he advances with endurance and sharpness, he protects and is protected by Al-Shihabi from above.
وَطَيَّرَ الفَحْلُ الإِبِلَ: أَلْقَحَهَا كُلَّهَا.
And the male camel impregnated the she-camels: he impregnated all of them.
وَقَدْ طَيَّرَتْ هِيَ لَقَحًا وَلِقَاحًا كَذَلِكَ، إِذَا عَجَّلَتْ بِاللِّقَاحِ.
And she became pregnant with conception and pregnancy, when she hastened with conception.
طَيَّرَهَا تَعَلُّقُ الإِلْقَاحِ فِي الهَيْجِ قَبْلَ كَلَبِ الرِّيَاحِ.
Its conception attached in the heat before the biting winds.
وَفِيهِ طَيْرَةٌ، مِثْلَ صَيْرُورَةٍ، أَيْ خِفَّةٌ وَطَيْشٌ.
And in him is tayrah, like sayrurah, meaning lightness and recklessness.
وَحِلْمُكَ عِزٌّ إِذَا مَا حَلُمْتَ وَطَيْرَتُكَ الصَّابُ وَالحَنْظَلُ.
And your forbearance is might when you are forbearing, and your flightiness is like poison and bitter colocynth.
ازْجُرْ أَحْنَاءَ طَيْرِكَ، أَيْ جَوَانِبَ خِفَّتِكَ وَطَيْشِكَ.
Repel the sides of your flightiness, meaning the aspects of your lightness and recklessness.
كَأَنَّ عَلَى رُؤُوسِهِمُ الطَّيْرَ أَيْ سَاكِنُونَ هَيْبَةً.
As if birds were upon their heads, meaning they were still out of awe.
أَنَّ الطَّيْرَ لَا يَقَعُ إِلَّا عَلَى شَيْءٍ سَاكِنٍ مِنَ المَوَاتِ.
That birds do not alight except on something still and inanimate.
أَنَّ الغُرَابَ يَقَعُ عَلَى رَأْسِ البَعِيرِ، فَيَلْقُطُ مِنْهُ الحَلْمَةَ وَالحِمَانَانَةَ، أَيْ القَرَادَ، فَلَا يَتَحَرَّكُ البَعِيرُ لِئَلَّا يَنْفِرَ عَنْهُ الغُرَابُ.
That the crow alights on the camel's head, and picks from it the udder-skin and the tick, meaning the tick, and the camel does not move lest the crow be scared away from it.
الرُّؤْيَا عَلَى رِجْلِ طَائِرٍ مَا لَمْ تُعَبَّرْ.
A dream is on the leg of a bird as long as it is not interpreted.
مُطْعِمُ طَيْرِ السَّمَاءِ: لَقَبُ شَيْبَةِ الحَمْدِ؛ نَحَرَ مِائَةَ بَعِيرٍ فَرَّقَهَا عَلَى رُؤُوسِ الجِبَالِ، فَأَكَلَتْهَا الطَّيْرُ.
The one who feeds the birds of the sky: the title of Shaybah al-Hamd; he slaughtered a hundred camels and distributed them on the mountaintops, and the birds ate them.
هُمْ فِي شَيْءٍ لَا يَطِيرُ غُرَابُهُ.
They are in a matter whose crow does not fly (i.e., a stable and prosperous situation).
وَيُقَالُ أَطِيرَ الغُرَابُ، فَهُوَ مُطَارٌ.
And it is said the crow flew away, so it is a place from which crows fly.
وَلِرَهْطِ حِرَابٍ وَقَدْ سُورَةٌ فِي المَجْدِ لَيْسَ غُرَابُهَا بِمُطَارٍ.
And for the clan of Hirab, there is a lineage in glory whose crow is not flown away from.
وَالطَّيْرُ: الِاسْمُ مِنَ التَّطَيُّرِ.
And al-tayr: the name derived from al-tatayyur (taking omens).
لَا طَيْرَ إِلَّا طَيْرُ اللهِ.
There is no omen except from God.
تَعْلَمُ أَنَّهُ لَا طَيْرَ إِلَّا عَلَى مُتَطَيِّرٍ.
You know that there is no omen except from one who is superstitious.
وَالطَّيْرُ: الحَظُّ، وَطَارَ لَنَا: حَصَلَ نَصِيبُنَا مِنْهُ.
And al-tayr: luck, and 'tar lana' means we obtained our share from it.
وَالطَّيْرُ: الشُّؤْمُ.
And al-tayr: bad luck.
إِيَّاكَ وَطَيْرَاتِ الشَّبَابِ، أَيْ زَلَّاتِهِمْ، جَمْعُ طِيَرَةٍ.
Beware of the slips of youth, meaning their mistakes, the plural of 'tirah'.
وَغُبَارٌ طَيَّارٌ: مُنْتَشِرٌ.
And flying dust: dispersed.
وَاسْتَطَارَ البِلَى فِي الثَّوْبِ، وَالصَّدْعُ فِي الزُّجَاجَةِ: تَبَيَّنَ فِي أَجْزَائِهِمَا.
And decay spread in the garment, and a crack in the glass: it became apparent in their parts.
وَاسْتَطَارَتِ الزُّجَاجَةُ: تَبَيَّنَ فِيهَا الانْصِدَاعُ مِنْ أَوَّلِهَا إِلَى آخِرِهَا.
And the glass became cracked: the fracture became apparent in it from its beginning to its end.
وَاسْتَطَارَ الشَّرُّ: انْتَشَرَ.
And evil spread: it became widespread.
وَاسْتَطَارَ البَرْقُ: انْتَشَرَ فِي أُفُقِ السَّمَاءِ.
And lightning spread: it spread across the horizon of the sky.
وَطَارَتِ الإِبِلُ بِآذَانِهَا، وَفِي التَّكْمِلَةِ: بِأَذْنَابِهَا؛ إِذَا لُقِحَتْ.
And the camels became pregnant (indicated by their ears), and in the supplement: by their tails; when they became pregnant.
وَطَارُوا سُرَاعًا: ذَهَبُوا.
And they went quickly: they departed.
حَتَّى إِذَا كَانَ عَلَى مَطَارٍ.
Until he was at Matar.
مَطَارٌ: وَادٍ مَا بَيْنَ السَّرَاةِ وَالطَّائِفِ.
Matar: a valley between Al-Sarrah and Ta'if.
وَالمِسْطَارُ مِنَ الخَمْرِ: أَصْلُهُ مُسْتَطَارٌ، فِي قَوْلِ بَعْضِهِمْ.
And al-mistar of wine: its origin is mustatar, according to some.
طَيْرِي بِمِخْرَاقٍ أَشَمَّ كَأَنَّهُ سَلِيمُ رِمَاحٍ لَمْ تَنَلْهُ الزَّعَانِفُ.
Fly with a strong scent, as if it were a spearhead untouched by fins.
فَسَّرَهُ فَقَالَ: طَيْرِي، أَيْ عَلِّقِي بِهِ.
He explained it, saying: Tayri, meaning cling to it.
وَذُو المَطَارَةِ، جَبَلٌ.
And Dhu al-Matarah, a mountain.
رَجُلٌ مُمْسِكٌ بِعِنَانِ فَرَسِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ يُطِيرُ عَلَى مَتْنِهِ.
A man holding the reins of his horse in the cause of God, riding swiftly upon its back.
فَلَمَّا قُتِلَ عُثْمَانُ طَارَ قَلْبِي مُطَارَةً.
When Uthman was killed, my heart fluttered with inclination.
وَالمَطَارُ: مَوْضِعُ الطَّيَرَانِ.
And al-matar: the place of flying.
طَيْرُ طَيْرٍ.
Tair tair (a call to a sheep).
وَالطَّيَّارُ: لَقَبُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ.
And Al-Tayyar: the title of Ja'far bin Abi Talib.
وَالطَّيَّارُ بْنُ الَّذِيَالِ: فِي نَسَبِ نَبِيشَةَ الهُذَلِيِّ الصَّحَابِيِّ.
And Al-Tayyar bin Al-Dhayyal: in the lineage of Nabisha al-Hudhayli, the companion.
وَأَبُو الفَرَجِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ حَمْدِ بْنِ الطَّيْرِيِّ القُصَيْرِيِّ الضَّرِيرِ، سَمِعَ ابْنَ البَطْرِ، وَتُوُفِّيَ فِي الأَرْبَعِينَ وَخَمْسِمِائَةٍ.
And Abu al-Faraj Muhammad bin Muhammad bin Hamd bin Al-Tayri al-Qusayri al-Dharir, heard Ibn al-Battar, and died in the year 540 AH.
وَإِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ الطَّيْرِ المَقْرِيُّ بِحَلَبَ، قَرَأَ عَلَيْهِ الهُذَلِيُّ.
And Ismail bin Al-Tayr al-Maqri in Aleppo, Al-Hudhayli recited to him.
وَالطَّائِرُ: مَاءٌ لِكَعْبِ بْنِ كِلَابٍ.
And Al-Tair: a water source of Ka'b bin Kilab.
