Umayyah bin Abi al-Salt said: His cousin Ibn Jid'an claimed that one day he was departing and undertaking a distant journey from which no traveler returns.
وَانْسَفَرَ مُقَدَّمُ رَأْسِهِ مِنَ الشَّعَرِ: انْحَسَرَ
And the front of his head from hair receded: it became bare.
وَانْسَفَرَتِ الْإِبِلُ أَيْ ذَهَبَتْ فِي الْأَرْضِ
And the camels dispersed, meaning they went off into the land.
وَالرِّيَاحُ يُسَافِرُ بَعْضُهُمَا بَعْضًا؛ لِأَنَّ الصَّبَا تُسْفِرُ أَيْ تَكْشِطُ وَتُفَرِّقُ مَا أَسَدَتْهُ الدَّبُورُ، وَالْجَنُوبُ تُلْحِمُهُ وَتَضُمُّهُ
And the winds travel one after another; because the southern wind (Saba) uncovers and disperses what the eastern wind (Dabur) has built up, and the southern wind (Janub) stitches it together and joins it.
اِنْسَفَرَ الْغَيْمُ: تَفَرَّقَ
The clouds dispersed: they scattered.
وَسَفَرَتِ الرِّيحُ التُّرَابَ: ذَهَبَتْ بِهِ كُلَّ مَذْهَبٍ
And the wind blew the dust: it carried it away in every direction.
وَلَقِيتُهُ سَفَرًا، وَفِي سَفَرٍ، أَيْ عِنْدَ اسْفِرَارِ الشَّمْسِ
I met him at the time of the sun's rising, or during the early part of the day, meaning at the time when the sun becomes bright.
وَبَيْنِي وَبَيْنَهُ مُسَافَرٌ بَعِيدَةٌ
And between me and him is a distant journey.
رَبَّ رَجُلٍ رَأَيْتُهُ مُسْفِرًا، ثُمَّ رَأَيْتُهُ مُفَسِّرًا، أَيْ مُجَلَّدًا
Perhaps a man whom I saw bright (in the morning), then I saw him bound (as a book).
وَبَقِيَ عَلَيْهِ سَفَرٌ مِنْ نَهَارٍ
And a part of the day remained for him.
وَسَافَرَتْ عَنْهُ الْحُمَّى
And the fever left him.
وَسَافَرَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَنْ كَبِدِ السَّمَاءِ
And the sun moved away from the zenith of the sky.
وَهُوَ مِنِّي سَفَرٌ، أَيْ بَعِيدٌ
And it is a journey from me, meaning far.
وَالسِّفَارَةُ: أَنْ يَرْتَفِعَ شَعَرُهُ عَنْ جَبْهَتِهِ
