Omar came, threatening.
والذمر: زأر الأسد، وقد ذمر، إذا زأر.

ذمار الرجل، وهو كل ما يلزمك حفظه وحياطته وحمايته
A man's 'dhimār', which is everything you must preserve, guard, and protect.
وإن ضيعه لزمه اللوم.

And it is said: 'Al-dhimār' is what is behind a man that he is obligated to protect.

It is called 'dhimār' because its people must be zealous for it.

وهو أن يفعل الرجل فعلا لا يبالغ في نكاية العدو، فهو يتذمر أي يلوم نفسه ويعاتبها كي يجد في الأمر
It is when a man does something without fully exerting himself against the enemy, so he blames himself and admonishes himself to be more vigorous in the matter.
وأقبل فلان يتذمر، كأنه يلوم نفسه على فائت.
And so-and-so came, blaming himself, as if he were reproaching himself for a missed opportunity.
فخرج يتذمر
So he went out blaming himself.
أي يعاتب نفسه ويلومها على فوات الذمار.
Meaning he admonishes himself and blames himself for the loss of the 'dhimār'.
وأقبل يتذمر: يلوم نفسه على التفريط ينشطها لئلا تفرط ثانية.
And he came, blaming himself: he reproaches himself for negligence, rousing himself so as not to be negligent again.
وفلان يتذمم ويتذمر.
And so-and-so blames himself and reproaches himself.
تذمر، إذا تغضب.
'Tadhammara', if he became angry.
سمعت له تذمرا. أي تغضبا.
I heard him grumbling. Meaning his anger.
ظل فلان يتذمر عليه، إذا تنكر له وأوعده.
So-and-so remained hostile towards him, meaning he acted inimically towards him and threatened him.
أنه كان يتذمر على ربه
That he was being insolent towards his Lord.
فمعناه يجترىء عليه ويرف صوته في عتابه.
So its meaning is to be audacious towards Him and raise his voice in his reproach.
المذمر: القفا
Al-midhmar: the nape of the neck.
وهما عظمان في أصل القفا، وهو الذفرى، وقيل: الكاهل.
And they are two bones at the base of the neck, which is the 'dhafrah', and it is said: the shoulder blade area.
انتهيت يوم بدر إلى أبي جهل وهو صريع، فوضعت رجلي في مذمره.
On the day of Badr, I reached Abu Jahl while he was fallen, and I placed my foot on his nape.
فال: يا رويعي الغنم، لقد ارتقيت مرتقى صعبا.
He said: 'O shepherd of sheep, you have climbed a difficult ascent.'
قال: فاحتززت رأسه
He said: 'So I severed his head.'
المذمر هو الكاهل والعنق وما حوله إلى الذفرى
Al-midhmar is the shoulder area, the neck, and what surrounds it up to the 'dhafrah'.
وهو الذي يذمره المذمر، كمحدث
And it is what the 'midhmar' touches, like 'muhaddith'.
وذمره يذمره وذمره لمس مذمره.
And he touched it, he touches it, and he touched its nape.
من يدخل يده في حياء الناقة لينظر أذكر جنينها أم لا
One who inserts his hand into the vulva of a she-camel to see if her fetus is male or not.
سمي بذلك لأنه يضع يده على ذالك الموضع فيعرفه.
He is so named because he places his hand on that spot and identifies it.
لأنه يلمس مذمره فيعرف ما هو، وهو التذمير.
Because he touches its nape and knows what it is, and that is 'al-tadhmeer'.
وقال المذمر للناتجين متى ذمرت قبلي الأرجل
And the examiner said to the breeders: 'When did you examine the legs before me?'
يقول: إن التذمير إنما هو في الأعناق لا في الأرجل.
He means: The examination is in the necks, not in the legs.
وإن كانا رققين كان ناقة، فإذا ذمرت الرجل فالأمر منقلب.
And if they are thin, it is a she-camel; so if the man examines, the matter is reversed.
وهم يذمرونها.
And they examine them.

وسميت بقيل من أقيال اليمن يقال إنه شمر بن الأملوك الذي بنى سمرقند.
And it was named after a king ('qayl') from the kings of Yemen, said to be Shammar bin al-Amluk, who built Samarkand.
وقيل: إن ذمار اسم صنعاء.
And it is said: 'Dhimar' is the name of Sana'a.
كشفت الريح عن منبر هود عليه السلام وهو من الذهب مرصع بالدر والياقوت
The wind uncovered the pulpit of Prophet Hud (peace be upon him), which was made of gold inlaid with pearls and rubies.
ووجد في أساسها حجر مكتوب فيه بالمسند: لمن ملك ذمار، لحمير الأخيار، لمن ملك ذمار، للحبشة الأشرار، لمن ملك ذمار لفارس الأحرار، لمن ملك ذمار، لقريش التجار.
And in its foundation, a stone was found inscribed in Musnad script: 'To whoever rules Dhimar, the good Himyarites; to whoever rules Dhimar, the evil Abyssinians; to whoever rules Dhimar, the free Persians; to whoever rules Dhimar, the Quraish merchants.'
وذموران ودالان: قريتان بقربها
And Dhumuran and Dalan: two villages near it.
ليس بأرض اليمن أحسن وجوها من نسائهما
There are no women in the land of Yemen whose faces are more beautiful than those of their women.
وذمرمر: حصن بصنعاء اليمن
And Dhamramr: a fortress in Sana'a, Yemen.
والذمير: الرجل الحسن الخلق.
And 'al-dhimir': the man of good character.
والتذمير: تقدير الأمر وتحزيره.
And 'al-tadhmeer': estimating a matter and preparing for it.
والتذامر: التحاض على القتال.
And 'al-tadhāmur': inciting each other to fight.
والقوم يتذامرون، أي يحض بعضهم بعضا على الجد في القتال
And the people incite each other, meaning they urge one another to be serious in battle.
يتذامرون كررت غير مذمم
They incite each other, I repeated without being blamed.
فتذامر المشركون وقالوا: هلا كنا حملنا عليهم وهم في الصلاة
So the polytheists blamed each other and said: 'Why did we not attack them while they were in prayer?'
أي تلاوموا على ترك الفرصة.
Meaning they blamed each other for missing the opportunity.
والذمرة: الصوت.
And 'al-dhimrah': the sound.
والذيمري: الرجل الحديد الطبع العلق
And 'al-dhimrī': the man of strong nature, tenacious.
وهو يتعلق بالأمور ويعانيها.
And he is involved in matters and endures them.
يقال للأمر. إذا اشتد: بلغ المذمر
It is said about a matter. If it intensified: it reached the 'midhmar'.
كقوله بلغ المخنق.
Like his saying: 'it reached the throat.'
الدمار بالكسر: الحرم، والأهل، والحوزة. والحشم والأنساب، ويفتح.
Al-damār with kasra: the sacred things, the family, the domain. And the retinue and lineages, and with fatha.
حبذا يوم الذمار
How excellent is the day of 'al-dhimār'.
يريد الحرب
He means war.
وقيل: الهلاك.
And it is said: destruction.
وقيل: الغضب.
And it is said: anger.
وذمار: اسم فعل كنزال، من ذمرت الرجل، إذا حرضته على الحرب
And 'Dhimār': a verbal noun like 'nuzāl', from 'dhammarta al-rajul', if you incited him to war.
