Its origin is 'aztakharahu', so the 'ta' of the 'ifti'al' pattern became heavy with the 'dhal', so it was changed to a 'dhal', and the original 'dhal' was assimilated into it, resulting in a doubled 'dhal'.

Its origin is 'tadh-takharu-na', because the 'dhal' is a voiced letter and the breath cannot flow with it due to its strong articulation, while the 'ta' is unvoiced. So, a voiced letter similar to 'dhal' in its voicing, which is 'dal', was substituted for the articulation of 'ta', resulting in 'tad-takharu-na'.
And among the Arabs, some say: 'tadh-dhakharu-na', with a doubled 'dhal', which is permissible, but the first is more common.
Indeed, 'adh-dhukhr' with the dotted 'dhal' is what is in the hereafter. And with the un-dotted 'dal' is what is in this world.
