And the trace has faded, become obsolete, and disappeared: it became old, worn out, and erased.

فِي فِتْيَةٍ بُسُطِ الْأَكُفِّ مُسَامِحٍ عِنْدَ الْقِتَالِ قَدِيمُهُمْ لَمْ يَدْثُرْ
Among youths, generous of hand, their ancestors in battle have not faded.
وَالدُّثُورُ لِلنَّفْسِ: سُرْعَةُ نِسْيَانِهَا
And al-duthur for the soul: its quick forgetfulness.
حَادِثُوا هَذِهِ الْقُلُوبَ بِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّهَا سَرِيعَةُ الدُّثُورِ
Refresh these hearts with the remembrance of Allah, for they are quick to forget.
يَعْنِي دُرُوسَ ذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَامِّحَاءَهُ مِنْهَا
Meaning the fading of the remembrance of Allah and its erasure from them.
إِنَّ الْقَلْبَ يَدْثُرُ كَمَا يَدْثُرُ السَّيْفُ فَجَلَاؤُهُ ذِكْرُ اللَّهِ
Indeed, the heart rusts like a sword rusts, and its polish is the remembrance of Allah.
دَثَرَ مَكَانُ الْبَيْتِ فَلَمْ يَحُجَّهُ هُودٌ، عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ
The place of the House had become obscured, so Hud, peace be upon him, did not perform the pilgrimage to it.
وَالدُّثُورُ، بِالْفَتْحِ: الْبَطِيءُ الثَّقِيلُ الَّذِي لَا يَكَادُ يَبْرَحُ مَكَانَهُ
And al-duthur, with fatha: the slow, the heavy, who can hardly leave his place.
إِذَا سَاقَهَا الرَّاعِي الدَّثُورُ حَسِبْتَهَا رِكَابَ عِرَاقِيٍّ مَوَاقِيرَ تَدْفَعُ
When the slow shepherd drives them, you would think they were heavy Iraqi camels being pushed.
وَالدَّاثِرُ: الْهَالِكُ
And al-dathir: the perished.
فُلَانٌ خَاسِرٌ دَاثِرٌ
So-and-so is a loser, perished.
وَالْأَصْلُ مُتَدَثِّرٌ، أُدْغِمَتِ التَّاءُ فِي الدَّالِ وَشُدِّدَتْ
And the origin is mutadathir, the taa was assimilated into the dal and intensified.
يَأَيُّهَا الْمُدَّثِّرُ
O you who are wrapped.
يَعْنِي الْمُتَدَثِّرَ بِثِيَابِهِ إِذَا نَامَ
Meaning one wrapped in his garments when he sleeps.
دَثِّرُونِي دَثِّرُونِ
Cover me, cover me.
أَنْتُمُ الشِّعَارُ وَالنَّاسُ الدِّثَارُ
You are the inner garment, and the people are the outer garment.
وَدَثَرَ الشَّجَرُ: أَوْرَقَ وَتَشَعَّبَتْ خَطَرَتُهُ
And the trees became lush: they leafed out and their branches spread.
وَدَثَرَ الرَّسْمُ وَغَيْرُهُ: دَرَسَ وَعَفَا بِهِبُوبِ الرِّيَاحِ عَلَيْهِ
And the trace and other things faded: they became worn out and erased by the blowing of the winds upon them.
فُلَانٌ جَدُّهُ عَائِثٌ، وَرَسْمُهُ دَاثِرٌ
So-and-so's grandfather is a wanderer, and his trace is faded.
وَدَثَرَ الثَّوْبُ دُثُورًا: اتَّسَخَ
And the garment became dirty: it became soiled.
وَدَثَرَ السَّيْفُ، إِذَا صَدِئَ، فَهُوَ دَاثِرٌ
And the sword became rusty, if it rusted, it is rusty.
وَهُوَ دَثْرُ مَالٍ، بِالْكَسْرِ، إِذَا كَانَ حَسَنَ الْقِيَامِ بِهِ
And he is good with wealth, with kasr, if he is good at managing it.
وَقَدْ دَثَرَ
And it has been repaired.
وَدَثَّرَ عَلَى الْقَتِيلِ: نُضِّدَ عَلَيْهِ الصَّخْرُ تَنْضِيدًا
And he piled upon the slain: stones were piled upon him, piled up.
وَرُجُلٌ دَثُورٌ، كَصَبُورٍ: مُتَدَثِّرٌ
And a person dathur, like sabur: wrapped.
أَلَمْ تَعْلَمِي أَنَّ الصَّعَالِيكَ نَوْمَهُمْ قَلِيلٌ إِذَا نَامَ الدَّثُورُ الْمُسَالِمُ
Do you not know that the poor sleep little when the peaceful, wrapped one sleeps?
وَدَثَّرَهُ تَدْثِيرًا: غَطَّاهُ
And he covered him, covering him: he covered him.
وَالدَّثُورُ: الْكَسْلَانُ
And al-duthur: the lazy one.
وَالدَّثْرُ: بِفَتْحٍ فَسُكُونٍ: الْخِصْبُ، وَالنَّبَاتُ الْكَثِيرُ
And al-dathr: with fatha then sukun: fertility, and abundant vegetation.
وَفُلَانٌ دَثُورُ الضُّحَى: يَتَدَثَّرُ فَيَنَامُ
And so-and-so is dathur al-duha: he wraps himself and sleeps.
وَهُوَ يَتَدَثَّرُ بِالْمَالِ، لِلْمُتَمَوِّلِ
And he wraps himself in wealth, for the wealthy one.
وَالدَّاثِرُ: الْمَنْزِلُ الدَّارِسُ، لِذَهَابِ أَعْلَامِهِ
And al-dathir: the ruined dwelling, due to the disappearance of its landmarks.
إِذَا مَا خَافَ بَعْضُ الْقَوْمِ بَعْضًا
