Khafarahu (he protected him), and khafara bihi (he sought protection from him), and farr 'alayhi yakhfiru (he protected him), with kasr, and yakhfiru, with damma, and this is from Al-Ka'ai, with khafaran, fath wa sukun: he granted him asylum, protected him, and made him safe.
وكان له خفيرا يمنعه
And he was a protector for him, preventing harm.
الاسم من ذالك الخفرة، بالضم
The noun from that is al-khufrah, with damma.
من صلى الصبح فهو في خفرة الله
Whoever prays the dawn prayer is in the protection of God.

And it is said al-khufrah and al-khifarah: safety, and it is said: a covenant.

It is said: 'Your protection has been fulfilled.' The one being protected says this to his protector if he does not hand him over.

Al-khafir: the one who grants asylum. And the one who grants protection.
خفير القوم: مجيرهم الذي يكونون في ضمانه ما داموا في بلاده، وهو يخفر القوم خفارة
The protector of a people: their guarantor under whose security they remain as long as they are in his land, and he protects the people with protection.
الخفارة: الذمة كالخفرة كهمزة
Al-khifarah: the covenant, like al-khufrah (with hamzah).
وهذا خفرتي، وهو بمعنى المجير، فقط، ولا يطلق على المجار
And this is my protection, and it means the protector, only, and is not applied to the one seeking asylum.

Akhfara al-dhimmah, if he did not fulfill it and violated it.
من صلى الغداة فإنه في ذمة الله، فلا تخفرن الله في ذمته
Whoever prays the dawn prayer is in the protection of God, so do not break God's covenant in His protection.
فإنكم وقوما أخفروكم لكالديباج مال به العباء
Indeed, you and a people who broke their covenant with you are like brocade adorned with cloaks.
والخفور هو الإخفار نفسه، من قبل المخفر، من غير فعل على خفر يخفر
And al-khufur is the breaking itself, from the perspective of the one whose covenant is broken, not from the verb 'khafara' which means to protect.
خفرت ذمة فلان خفورا إذا لم يوف بها ولم تتم، وأخفرها الرجل
Khafirtu the covenant of so-and-so with khufuran if it was not fulfilled and completed, and the man akhfaraha (broke it).
أخفرت الرجل: نقضت عهده وذمامه
Akhfartu the man: I broke his covenant and his protection.
وهو المراد في الحديث
And this is what is intended in the hadith.
من ظلم من المسلمين أحدا فقد أخفر الله
Whoever wrongs any of the Muslims has indeed broken God's covenant.
والتخفير: التسوير والتحصين
And al-takhfir: building walls and fortifying.
أخفره: بعث معه خفيرا يمنعه ويحرسه
Akhfarahu: he sent with him a protector to prevent and guard him.
وتخفر: اشتد حياؤه
And takhffara: his shyness intensified.
وتخفر به: استجار به وسأله أن يكون له خفيرا يجيره
And takhffara bihi: he sought asylum with him and asked him to be a protector for him, granting him asylum.
والخفارة، بالكسر، في النخل: حفظه من الفساد
And al-khifarah, with kasr, in date palms: protecting them from spoilage.
والخفارة في الزرع: الشراحة وزنا ومعنى، وهو الخفير والشارح، لحافظ الزرع
And al-khifarah in crops: al-sharaahah, in weight and meaning, and it is the protector and the one who explains, for the guardian of the crop.
