حتر أهله حترا وحتورا: قتر عليهم النفقة، وضيق عليهم، ومنعهم

'Ḥatara' his family, 'ḥatran' and 'ḥaturan': to be stingy with their provisions, to restrict them, and to withhold from them.

إذا حترتهم أتفهت وأقلت

When you are stingy with them, you provide little and give sparingly.

وما حتر شيئا؛ أي ما أكل شيئا.

حتر الرجل حترا: أعطاه، وأطعمه، وقيل: قلل عطاءه، أو إطعامه.
