وَكُلُّ عَلَامَةٍ تُعَدُّ فَهِيَ أَمَارَةٌ
And every sign that is counted is an 'amara (sign).
تَقُولُ: هِيَ أَمَارَةُ مَا بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَكَ، أَيْ عَلَامَةٌ
You say: 'It is the sign between me and you,' meaning a mark.
إِذَا طَلَعَتْ شَمْسُ النَّهَارِ فَإِنَّهَا أَمَارَةُ تَسْلِيمِي عَلَيْكَ فَسَلِّمِي
When the sun of the day rises, it is a sign of my greeting you, so greet me.
وَقِيلَ: الأَمَارُ جَمْعُ الأَمَارَةِ
And it is said: Al-Amār is the plural of Al-Amārah.
وَمِنْهُ الحَدِيثُ الآخَرُ: (فَهَلْ لِلسَّفَرِ أَمَارَةٌ؟)
And from it is the other Hadith: 'Is there a sign for travel?'
قَدْ لَقِيَ الأَقْرَانُ مِنِّي نَكَرًا دَاهِيَةً دَهْيَاءَ إِدًا إِمْرًا
The equals have met from me a terrible, overwhelming calamity, a monstrous deed.
لَقَدْ جِئْتَ شَيْئًا إِمْرًا
You have certainly brought a monstrous thing.
أَيْ جِئْتَ شَيْئًا عَظِيمًا مِنَ المُنْكَرِ
Meaning, you have brought something great of the forbidden/wrong.
وَمَا بِهَا أَمَرٌ مُحَرَّكَةٌ وَتَأْمُورٌ
And there is not in it anyone (a person).
وَقِيلَ: التَّأْمُورُ النَّفْسُ
And it is said: Al-Ta'mūr is the soul.
يُقَالُ: لَقَدْ عَلِمَ تَأْمُورُكَ ذَلِكَ، أَيْ قَدْ عَلِمَتْ نَفْسُكَ ذَلِكَ
It is said: 'Your soul has known that,' meaning, 'Your self has known that.'
أَنْبِئْتُ أَنَّ بِئْرَ سَحِيمٍ أَوْلَجُوا أَبْيَاتَهُمْ تَأْمُورَ نَفْسِ المُنْذِرِ
I was informed that the well of Suhaim, they brought their tents into the soul of Al-Mundhir.
وَقِيلَ: التَّأْمُورُ حَيَاتُهَا وَعَقْلُهَا
And it is said: Al-Ta'mūr is its life and its intellect.
وَقِيلَ: التَّأْمُورُ القَلْبُ نَفْسُهُ
And it is said: Al-Ta'mūr is the heart itself.
وَقِيلَ: التَّأْمُورُ حَبَتُهُ وَحَيَاتُهُ وَدَمُهُ وَعَلَقَتُهُ
And it is said: Al-Ta'mūr is its seed, its life, its blood, and its attachment.
أَيْ فِي شِدَّةِ شَجَاعَتِهِ وَقَلْبِهِ
Meaning, in the intensity of his bravery and his heart.
وَالتَّأْمُورُ: الوِعَاءُ
And Al-Ta'mūr: the container.
وَالتَّأْمُورُ: الوَزِيرُ لِنُفُوذِ أَمْرِهِ
And Al-Ta'mūr: the minister, due to the execution of his command.
وَالتَّأْمُورُ: لَعِبُ الجَوَارِي أَوْ الصِّبْيَانِ
And Al-Ta'mūr: the play of girls or boys.
وَالتَّأْمُورُ: صَوْمَعَةُ الرَّاهِبِ وَنَامُوسُهُ
And Al-Ta'mūr: the monk's cell and his rule.
مَا فِي الرَّكِيَّةِ تَأْمُورٌ، يُعْنِي: شَيْءٌ مِنَ المَاءِ
There is not in the well a Tamūr, meaning: a bit of water.
وَالتَّأْمُورُ: عَرِيسَةُ الأَسَدِ وَخَيْسُهُ
And Al-Ta'mūr: the lion's den and its lair.
وَالتَّأْمُورُ: الخَمْرُ نَفْسُهَا عَلَى التَّشْبِيهِ بِدَمِ القَلْبِ
And Al-Ta'mūr: the wine itself, by analogy with the blood of the heart.
وَإِذَا لَهَا تَامُورَةٌ مَرْفُوعَةٌ لِشَرَابِهَا
And if it has a Tamūrah raised for its drink.
وَأَمَرُوا النِّسَاءَ فِي أَنْفُسِهِنَّ
And consult women about themselves (their marriages).
وَقَالَ غَيْرُهُ: آمَرْتُهُ فِي أَمْرِي مُؤَامَرَةً، إِذَا شَاوَرْتُهُ
And others said: I consulted him about my affair with a consultation, if I sought his advice.
وَالعَامَّةُ تَقُولُ: وَامَرْتُهُ
And the common people say: 'Waamartuhu' (and consulted him).
إِنَّ المَلَا يَأْتَمِرُونَ بِكَ لِيَقْتُلُوكَ
Indeed, the chiefs are plotting against you to kill you.
أَيْ يَتَشَاوَرُونَ عَلَيْكَ
Meaning, they are consulting about you.
أَيْ يَأْمُرُ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا بِقَتْلِكَ
Meaning, some of them order others to kill you.
وَأَمَرُوا بَيْنَكُمْ بِمَعْرُوفٍ
And consult each other about what is right.
رَجُلٌ إِذَا نَزَلَ بِهِ أَمْرٌ ائْتَمَرَ رَأْيُهُ
A man, when a matter befalls him, his opinion is consulted.
مَعْنَاهُ ارْتَأَى وَشَاوَرَ نَفْسَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُوَاقِعَ مَا يُرِيدُ
Its meaning is: he deliberated and consulted his own mind before undertaking what he intended.
لا يَدْرِي المَكْذُوبُ كَيْفَ يَأْتَمِرُ
The liar does not know how to deliberate.
أَيْ كَيْفَ يَرْتَئِي رَأْيًا وَيُشَاوِرُ نَفْسَهُ وَيَعْقِدُ عَلَيْهِ؟
Meaning, how does he form an opinion, consult his own mind, and decide upon it?
أَحَارَ بْنَ عَمْرٍو وَفُؤَادِي خَمْرٌ وَيَعْدُو عَلَى المَرْءِ مَا يَأْتَمِرُ
O Harith son of Amr, and my heart is wine, and what one consults upon overcomes him.
أَيْ إِذَا ائْتَمَرَ أَمْرًا غَيْرَ رُشْدٍ عَدَا عَلَيْهِ فَأَهْلَكَهُ
Meaning, if he consults upon an unwise matter, it overcomes him and destroys him.
أَيْ هَمُّوا بِهِ وَاعْتَزَمُوا عَلَيْهِ
Meaning, they intended it and resolved upon it.
وَقَالَ: إِنَّمَا أَرَادَ يَعْدُو عَلَى المَرْءِ مَا هَمَّ بِهِ مِنَ الشَّرِّ
And he said: He only meant that what one intends of evil overcomes him.
فَإِنَّهُ يَأْمُرُ النَّاسَ بِالحَذَرِ
Because it commands people to be cautious.
وَسُمِّيَ الآخَرُ مُؤْتَمَرًا
And the other was named Mu'tamir.
وَإِنَّمَا سُمِّيَ آمِرًا لِأَنَّ النَّاسَ يُؤَامِرُ فِيهِ بَعْضُهُمْ بَعْضًا لِلظَّعْنِ أَوْ المَقَامِ
It was only named 'Amir because people consult each other in it about traveling or staying.
نَحْنُ أَجَرْنَا كُلَّ ذِيَّالٍ قَتِرٍ فِي الحَجِّ مِنْ قَبْلِ دَآدَى المُؤْتَمِرِ
We protected every lean, dusty one during Hajj before the sacred month of Al-Mu'tamar.
وَأَهْلَكَ بَيْنَ إِمْرَةٍ وَكِيرٍ
And your family is between Imrah and Kayr.
وَكَانَ الحِمَى حِمَى ضِرِّيَّةَ عَلَى عَهْدِ عُثْمَانَ، سُرِّحَ الغَنَمُ سِتَّةَ أَمْيَالٍ، ثُمَّ رَادَ النَّاسُ فِيهِ فَصَارَ خَيَالٌ بِإِمْرَةَ
And the protected pasture was Dhirriyyah during the time of Uthman; the sheep were let out for six miles, then people returned to it, and it became a landmark at Imrah.
وَأَفْزَعْنَ فِي وَادِي الأَمِيرِ بَعْدَمَا كَسَا البِيدَ سَافِي القَيْظَةِ المُتَنَاصِرِ
And they were frightened in Wadi Al-Amir after the scattered summer sand covered the desert.
هَلْ تَذْكُرُونَ بَلَاءَكُمْ يَوْمَ الصَّفَا أَوْ تَذْكُرُونَ فَوَارِسَ المَأْمُورِ
Do you remember your trials on the day of Al-Safa, or do you remember the knights of Al-Ma'mur?
خَيْرُ المَالِ مُهْرَةٌ مَأْمُورَةٌ وَسِكَّةٌ مَأْبُورَةٌ
The best of wealth is a prolific mare and a well-cultivated field.
