You see the reeds of the marrān, as if they are measuring bundles in the hands of the woodcutters.
أقرو إليهم أنابيب القنا قصدا
They brought to them the shafts of spears, broken.
يريد: أمشى إليهم على كسر الرماح؛
Meaning: I walk to them over broken spears;
وقصد له قصدة من عظم، وهي الثلث أو الربع من الفخذ أو الذراع أو الساق أو الكتف
And for him a piece of bone, which is a third or a quarter of the thigh, arm, leg, or shoulder.
وقصد من العظم قصدة: دون نصفه إلى الثلث أو الربع
And a piece of bone is qasd: less than half, down to a third or a quarter.
القصيد من الشعر: ما تم شطر أبياته
Al-Qasid of poetry: that whose verses are complete.
سمي بذالك لكماله وصحة وزنه
It was named thus for its completeness and correctness of meter.
سمي قصيدا لأنه قصد واعتمد

فإذا رأيت القصيدة الواحدة قد وقع عليها القصيد، بلا هاء، فإنما ذالك لأنه وضع على الواحد اسم الجنس اتساعا
And when you see a single qasidah referred to by al-qasid, without the 'ha', it is because the generic noun was applied to the singular by extension.
فجعل القصيدة على ثلاثة أبيات
So he made the qasidah to be three verses.
فأما ما زاد على ذالك فإنما تسميه العرب قصيدة
As for what exceeds that, the Arabs name it a qasidah.
وهو كل ما تغنى به الركبان
And it is everything that the travelers sing to.
وهو المخ الغليظ السمين الذي يتقصد أي يتكسر لسمنه
And it is the thick, fatty marrow that breaks due to its fatness.
هاذا كلام سمين، أي جيد
This is fatty speech, meaning good.
