وقرد الشعر والصوف، كفرح، قردا: تجعد وانعقدت أطرافه
And hair and wool become tangled, as in 'faraha', qardan: they become tangled and their ends knot.
وقرد الأديم يقرد قردا: حلم
And leather becomes spoiled, yaqradu qardan: it becomes spoiled.
وقرد الرجل: سكت عيا
And a man becomes silent out of inability (to speak).
أقرد الرجل إذا سكت ذلا
A man becomes aqrada if he falls silent out of submission.
إياكم والإقراد
Beware of falling silent out of submission.
كان لنا وحش فإذا خرج رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلمأسعرنا قفزا، فإذا حضر مجيئه أقرد
We had a wild animal, and when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went out, we would make it jump, but when his arrival was imminent, it would become still and submissive.
قردت أسنانه قردا: صغرت
His teeth became small, qardan: they became small.
وإنه قرد الفم
And indeed, he has a small mouth.
وقرد العلك قردا: فسد طعمه
And chewing gum becomes spoiled, qardan: its taste becomes spoiled.
قرد لعياله، كضرب، قردا: جمع وكسب
He gathered for his family, as in 'daraba', qardan: he gathered and earned.
وقرد في السقاء يقرد قردا: جمع سمنا
And he gathered fat in the waterskin, yaqardu qardan: he gathered fat.
والقرد ككتف: السحاب المنعقد المتلبد
And al-qard, like 'katif': the condensed, clumped clouds.
وسحاب قرد وهو المتقطع في أقطار السماء يركب بعضه بعضا
And qard clouds are those scattered in the sky's horizons, one riding upon another.
فرس قرد الخصيل
A horse with a tightly bound mane.
والقرد بالتحريك: هنات صغار تكون دون السحاب لم تلتئم بعد
And al-qard, with harakah: small things that are below the clouds, not yet coalesced.
والقرد محركة: لجلجة في اللسان
And al-qard, with harakah: a stammer in the tongue.
نعم الخبر خبرك لولا قرد في لسانك
Yes, your news is good, were it not for a stammer in your tongue.

When the Banu Layth descend upon 'Ukaz, you see the crow upon their heads.

He deceived, tuqridan: he deceived.
والقرود: بعير لا ينفر عن التقريد
And al-qurud: a camel that does not shy away from the removal of ticks.
أخذه بقرده
He took it by its neck.
فجلله عضب الضريبة صارما فطبق ما بين الضريبة والقرد
So he struck him with a sharp, decisive blow, covering the space between the shoulder and the neck.
والقردد: ما ارتفع من الأرض

I traversed rough, elevated ground.
متى ما تزرنا آخر الدهر تلقنا بقرقرة ملساء ليست بقردد

And that raid is called: the raid of Dhu Qard.
