وهي التي تعصدها بالمسواط فتمرها به، فتنقلب، لا يبقى في الإناء شيء منها إلا انقلب.

It is that which you stir with a stick and pass it through, so it turns over, nothing remains in the pot of it except it turns over.

فقربت له عصيدة وهو دقيق يلت بالسمن ويطبخ، يقال عصدت العصيدة، وأعصدتها، أي اتخذتها.

So I prepared for him 'ʿaṣīdah', which is flour mixed with ghee and cooked; it is said 'ʿaṣadtu al-ʿaṣīdah' and 'aʿṣadtuha', meaning I made it.

وعصيد، كجذيم: المأبون، وبه فسر بعضهم قول عنترة: فهلا وفى الفغواء عمرو بن جابر بذمته وابن اللقيطة عصيد ورجل عصيد معصود، نعت سوء.

And 'ʿuṣayd' (like judhaym) means the passive partner in sodomy. Some interpreted the saying of Antarah with it: 'Why did al-Fughwā' Amr ibn Jābir not fulfill his promise, and the son of the foundling is 'ʿuṣayd', and a man 'ʿuṣayd maʿṣūd' is a bad description.'

And people 'ʿaṣāwīd' in war: they stick to their equals and do not leave them.

And arriving 'ʿuṣwād', with kasra: tiring; what is in Al-Lisān: a man 'ʿuṣwād' (tiring), and Al-Aṣmaʿī recited: 'And in the proximity, the tiring one for the camels is a driver'.

And it is said: 'They are in 'ʿuṣwād' among them', meaning afflictions and disputes, and they fell into 'ʿuṣwād', meaning a great matter.

And the heroes threw hostile glances at each other, and the warriors remained in 'ʿuṣwād'.

So if you arrive and my house is surrounded by error, then let lightning strike your land as you wish and thunder. O sons of Qallābah, it was not your custom to accept humiliation before the plan of 'maʿṣad'.

قال أبو عبيدة: يعني عصد عمرو بن هند، من العصد والعزد، يعني منكوحا.

Abū ʿUbaydah said: 'He means the 'ʿaṣd' of Amr ibn Hind, from 'al-ʿaṣd' and 'al-ʿazd', meaning sexually penetrated.'

And in the handwriting of Al-Nawawī, from Ibn Al-Bannā': In the farthest part of Al-Jawf is the castle of 'Al-ʿAṣā'id': a village, and the attribution to it is 'ʿAṣā'idī'.
