احْشِدُوا فَإِنِّي سَأَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكُمْ ثُلُثَ الْقُرْآنِ
Gather, for I will recite to you one-third of the Quran.

وَالْحَشْدُ بِفَتْحٍ فَسُكُونٍ، وَيُحَرَّكُ: الْجَمَاعَةُ يَحْتَشِدُونَ
And Al-Hushd, with fath then sukun, and it is vocalized: a group that gathers.
إِنِّي أَخَافُ حَشْدَهُ.

وَالْحَشْدُ كَتِفٍ: مَنْ لَا يَدَعُ عِنْدَ نَفْسِهِ شَيْئًا مِنَ الْجَهْدِ وَالنُّصْرَةِ وَالْمَالِ، كَالْمُحْتَشِدِ وَالْحَاشِدِ

وَالْحَشَّادُ، كَسَحَابٍ: الْأَرْضُ تَسِيلُ مِنْ أَدْنَى مَطَرٍ
And Al-Hashshad, like Sahab: land that floods from the slightest rain.
وَإِنَّمَا هِيَ حَتْدٌ. وَهُوَ الصَّحِيحُ.
Rather, it is Hatd. And that is the correct view.
وَالْحَاشِدُ: الْعِذْقُ الْكَثِيرُ الْحَمْلِ.
And Al-Hashid: the date cluster with abundant fruit.
وَرَجُلٌ نَحْشُودٌ مَحْفُودٌ: مَطَاعٌ فِي قَوْمِهِ يُخِفُّونَ لِخِدْمَتِهِ وَيَجْتَمِعُونَ إِلَيْهِ.
And a man Nahshud, Mahfud: obeyed by his people, who hasten to serve him and gather around him.
وَفِي حَدِيثِ الْحَجَّاجِ: أَمِنْ أَهْلِ الْمَحَاشِدِ وَالْمَخَاطِبِ
And in the hadith of Al-Hajjaj: 'Are they from the people of the gathering places and the places of speech?'
أَيْ مَوَاضِعَ الْحَشْدِ وَالْخِطْبِ
Meaning: the places of gathering and of speech.
وَيُقَالُ جَاءَ فُلَانٌ حَافِلًا حَاشِدًا، وَمُحْتَفِلًا مُحْتَشِدًا، أَيْ مُسْتَعِدًّا مُتَأَهِّبًا.
And it is said: So-and-so came fully prepared and gathered, and festive and assembled, meaning: ready and prepared.
وَرَجُلٌ مَحْشُودٌ: عِنْدَهُ حَشْدٌ مِنَ النَّاسِ
And a man Mahshud: he has a crowd of people with him.
وَيُقَالُ لِلرَّجُلِ إِذَا نَزَلَ بِقَوْمٍ فَأَكْرَمُوهُ، وَأَحْسَنُوا ضِيَافَتَهُ: قَدْ حَشَدُوا.
And it is said of a man when he stays with a people and they honor him and treat him well: they have gathered (for him).
وَقَالَ الْفَرَّاءُ: حَشَدُوا لَهُ وَحَفَلُوا لَهُ، إِذَا اخْتَلَطُوا لَهُ، وَبَالَغُوا فِي إِلْطَافِهِ وَإِكْرَامِهِ.
And Al-Farra' said: They gathered for him and they assembled for him, meaning they mingled for him and went to great lengths in their kindness and honor towards him.
وَمِنَ الْمَجَازِ: بِتُّ فِي لَيْلَةٍ تَحْشِدُ عَلَيَّ الْهُمُومُ.
