And it is said: he returned to his disposition, if he did something good then retracted from it.
والحَتَدُ، كَكَتِفٍ: الخالِصُ الأصْلِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْءٍ.
And al-hatad, like katif: the pure origin of everything.
وقد حَتَدَ يَحْتِدُ حَتَدًا: فَرِحَ وهو حَتَدٌ.
And he became happy, he becomes happy, happiness: he rejoiced, and he is happy.
والحَتَدُ، كَعُنُقٍ: العُيُونُ المُنْسَلِقَةُ
And al-hatad, like 'unuq: the emerging springs.
وفي المُجْمَلِ لابنِ فارِسٍ أنَّ الحَتَدَ بِضَمَّتَيْنِ العَيْنَ النّائِيَةَ الماءَ
And in Al-Mujmal by Ibn Fāris, al-hatad with two dammahs is the spring distant from water.
والحَتَدُ: جَوْهَرُ الشَّيْءِ وأصْلُهُ
And al-hatad: the essence of the thing and its origin.
وحَتَدْتُهُ تَحْتِيدًا: أي اخْتَرْتُهُ لِخُلُوصِهِ وفَضْلِهِ
And I chose him with selection: meaning I chose him for his purity and excellence.
