It was originally 'ithtaradahu' on the pattern 'ifta'ala'. When two letters with close articulation points met in one word, assimilation was necessary. However, since the tha' is voiceless and the ta' is voiced, that was not correct, so they substituted a ta' for the first and assimilated it into its like.
وناس من العرب يبدلون من التاء ثاء فيدغمون فيقولون اثردت، فيكون الحرف الأصلي هو الظاهر، كما في (الصحاح).
And some Arabs substitute a tha' for the ta', and they assimilate, saying 'athradtu', so the original letter appears, as in Al-Sihah.
وفي حديث عائشة رضي الله عنها: (فأخدت خمارا لها قد ثردته بزعفران)، أي صبغته.
And in the narration of Aisha, may God be pleased with her: (So she took a scarf of hers that she had dyed with saffron), meaning she colored it.
وفي حديث سئل ابن عباس عن الذبيحة بالعود فقال: (ما أفرى الأوداج غير المثرد فكل)
And in the hadith, Ibn Abbas was asked about slaughtering with a stick, and he said: (Whatever severs the jugular veins except the improperly slaughtered one, then eat it).
وقيل: التثريد: أن يذبح الذبيحة بشيء لا ينهر الدم ولا يسيله.
And it was said: Al-Tathreed is to slaughter the animal with something that does not make the blood flow or drain it.
وأنشد الفراء: ألا يا خبز يا ابنة أثردان أبى الحلقوم بعدك لا ينام
And Al-Farra' recited: O bread, O daughter of Athardan, the throat refuses to sleep after you.
قال ابن سيده: وأظن أثردان اسما للثريد أو المثرود معرفة، فإذا كان كذالك فحكمه أن لا ينصرف، لكن صرفه للضرورة.
Ibn Sidah said: And I think Athardan is a proper noun for tharid or mathrood, so if that is the case, its rule is not to be declined, but he declined it out of necessity.
ورواية ابن الأعرابي (يا ابنة يثردان. قال يثردان: غلامان كانا يثردان، فنسب الخبزة إليهما، ولاكنه نون فصرف للضرورة، والوجه في مثل هشذا أن يحكى.
And the narration of Ibn Al-A'rabi (O daughter of Yathardan. Yathardan said: Two youths used to make tharid, so the bread was attributed to them, but he made it tanween and declined it out of necessity, and the proper way for something like this is to narrate it.
وفي الحديث: (فضل عائشة على النساء كفضل الثريد على سائر الطعام)
And in the hadith: (Aisha's superiority over women is like the superiority of tharid over other food).
قيل لم يرد عين الثريد وإنما أراد الطعام المتخذ من اللهم والثريد معا، لأن الثريد غالبا لا يكون إلا من لحم.
It was said that it did not mean tharid itself, but rather the food made from meat and tharid together, because tharid is usually made from meat.
قال: وقيل لأعرابي: ما مطر أرضك؟ قال: مرككة فيها ضروس، وثرد يذر بقله ولا يقرح أصله.
He said: And an Arab was asked: What is the rain of your land? He said: A light rain with some drops, and a weak rain that sprinkles its plants and does not damage its roots.
قال: وفي بعض الأمهات بالتخفيف، كعلم، وهو الصواب (من المعركة: حمل) منها (مرتثا)، نقله الصاغاني.
He said: And in some mother texts, it is with abbreviation, like 'alima', which is correct (from the battle: he carried) from it (a wounded person), as narrated by Al-Sagani.

He died in the year 261, as stated in (Al-Kashif) by Al-Dhahabi.
