والشاعر المنسوب إليها هو عمرو بن مالك، القائل:
And the poet attributed to it is Amr ibn Malik, who said:
وليـلتـها بآمـد لم نـنـمـهـا كـلـيـلتـنـا بـمـيـافـارقيـنـا
And its night in Amid, we did not sleep through it like our night in Mayafariqin.
قال شيخنا: الصواب في مثل هاذا أن تعد حروفه كلها أصولا، فتذكر في فصل الميم، لإن البلدة أعجمية
Our Sheikh said: The correct approach for something like this is to consider all its letters as roots, and thus mention it in the section of the letter mim, because the town is non-Arabic.
وإن كان عربيا فالصواب أن يذكر في فصل الراء، لأنها مضارع أراد يريد مسندا للمخاطب
And if it were Arabic, the correct approach would be to mention it in the section of the letter ra, because it is a present tense verb from 'arada' (to want), referring to the addressee.
أما ذكرها هنا فخارج عن الطريقين
As for mentioning it here, it is outside of both approaches.
وقيل: قرية أو محلة بسمرقند
And it is said: a village or a settlement in Samarkand.
والذي ذكره ابن السمعاني، وهو أعرف بها، أنها محله بسمرقتد
And what Ibn al-Sam'ani mentioned, and he is more knowledgeable about it, is that it is a settlement in Samarkand.
