الوحوحة: صوت معه بحح.
Al-waḥūḥah: a sound accompanied by hoarseness.
والوحوحة: (النفخ في اليد من شدة البرد).
And al-waḥūḥah: (blowing into the hand from intense cold).
وقد وحوح من البرد، إذا ردد نفسه في خلقه حتى تسمعع له صوتا.
And he made a hoarse sound from the cold, if he repeated his breath in his throat until a sound was heard from him.
والوحوح: الرجل (المنكمش الحديد النفس).
And al-waḥūḥ: the man (withdrawn, strong-willed).
قال: يا رب شيخ من لكيز وحوح عبل شديد أسره صمحمح
He said: O Lord, a sheikh from Lakiz, hoarse, strong, with a firm grip, and resilient.
والوحوح: (الشديد) القوة الذي ينحم عند عمله لنشاطه وشدته.
And al-waḥūḥ: the strong one in power who pants when he works due to his energy and intensity.
ورجال وحاوح.
And men who are strong and energetic.
والوحوح: (الكلب المصوت، كالوحواح، فيهما) ، بل في الثلاثة، كما في (اللسان) وغيره.
And al-waḥūḥ: (the barking dog, like al-waḥwāḥ, in both), rather in all three, as in (Al-Lisan) and elsewhere.
والوحواح (الخفيف) من الرجال.
And al-waḥwāḥ: (the swift) among men.
قال أبو الأسود العجلي: ملازم آثارها صيداح واتسقت لزاجر وحواح
Abu al-Aswad al-'Ijli said: Following her tracks, a loud caller, and aligned with the one who drives the swift one.
والوحوح: (طائر)، قال ابن دريد: ولا أعرف ما صحتها.
And al-waḥūḥ: (a bird), Ibn Duraid said: And I do not know its authenticity.
وتوحوح الظليم فوق البيض، إذا (رئمها وأظهر ولوعه بها).
And the male ostrich cooed over the eggs, when he cherished them and showed his affection for them.
قال تميم بن مقبل: كبيضة أدحي توحوح فوقها هجفان مرياعا الضحى وحدان
Tamim bin Muqbil said: Like an egg laid in a nest, cooing over it are the watchful, observant ostriches in the morning and alone.
ووح، بالتشديد مبنيا على الكسر، وفي مؤلفات الغريب: وح وح (زجر للبقر).
And wuh, with shadda, built on kasra, and in works of rare words: wuh wuh (a call to cattle).
ووحوح الثور: صوت.
And the bellowing of the bull: a sound.
ووحوح البقر: زجرها.
And the calling of the cows: their herding.
وإذا طردت الثور قلت له: قع قع، وإذا. زجرته قلت له: وح وح.
And if you drive the bull, you say to it: qa' qa', and if you urge it, you say to it: wuh wuh.
والوح: الوتد، و: عبل ناحية من عمان.
And al-wuh: the stake, and: a region in Oman.
والوح (رجل فقير. ومنه: (أفقر من وح))
And al-wuh (a poor man. From this: (poorer than Waḥ)).
ويقال: كان وح رجلا زجر فقيها فضرب به المثل في الحاجة.
And it is said: Waḥ was a man who drove cattle, a فقيه (scholar), and he was made an example of in poverty.
أو من الوتد، قاله ابن الأعرابي، وهو قول المفضل.
Or from the stake, Ibn al-A'rabi said this, and it is the opinion of al-Mufaddal.
الوحواح: السيد الرئيس، جمعه وحاوح، وبه فسر ابن الأثير قول أبي طالب يمدح النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم حتى تجالدكم عنه وحاوحة شيب صناديد لا يدعرهم الأسل
Al-waḥwāḥ: the chief, the leader, its plural is waḥāḥ, and with this Ibn al-Athir interpreted the saying of Abu Talib praising the Prophet, peace be upon him: until the leaders of the elders, whom the spears do not repel, fought for you.
وهو جمع وحواح، والهاء فيه لتأنيث الجمع.
And it is the plural of waḥwāḥ, and the 'ha' in it is for the feminine plural.
ومنه حديث الذي يعبر الصراط حبوا وهم أصحاب وحوح، أي أصحاب من كان في الدنيا سيدا.
And from this is the hadith of the one who crosses the Sirat crawling, and they are the companions of waḥwāḥ, meaning companions of those who were leaders in the world.
ويجوز أن يكون من الوحوحة وهو صوت فيه بحوحة، كأنه يعني أصحاب الجدال والخصام والشغب في الأسواق وغيرها.
And it is permissible for it to be from al-waḥūḥah, which is a sound with hoarseness, as if it means those who engage in arguments, disputes, and clamor in the markets and elsewhere.
ومننه حديث علي (لقد شفى وحاوح صدري حسكم إياهم بالنصال)
And from it is the saying of Ali (Indeed, the burning of my chest was healed by your striking them with the spearheads).
قال السهيلي في الروض: الوحاوح الحرق والحرارات.
Al-Suhayli said in Al-Rawd: Al-waḥāḥ are burns and heat.
وحوح: اسم رجل، قال الجعدي يرثيه، وهو أخوه: ومن قبله ما قد رزئت بوحوح وكان ابن أمي والخليل المصافيا
Wuḥūḥ: the name of a man, Al-Ja'di said when mourning him, and he was his brother: And before him, I had not suffered the loss of Wuḥūḥ, who was my brother and my intimate friend.
والوحوح أيضا: وسط الوادي، عن أبي عبيد.
And al-waḥūḥ also: the middle of the valley, from Abu Ubaid.
