كدح وجه فلان، إذا عمل به ما يشينه، ككدحه تكديحا فتكدح، خدشه فتخدش.
He marred someone's face, if he did something that shamed it, like scratching it, so it was scratched and became scratched.
أو كدح وجه أمره، إذا أفسده.
Or he marred the face of his affair, if he spoiled it.
كدح لعياله: كسب، كاكتدح
He worked for his family: he earned, like he earned.
أبو عيال يكدح المكادحا
A father of a family who endures hardships.
كدح رأسه بالمشط: فرج شعره به.
He combed his head with a comb: he parted his hair with it.
به كدح بفتح فسكون، أي خدش
He has a kadḥ, with fatḥa then sukūn, meaning a scratch.
وقيل الكدح أكبر من الخدش.
And it is said that kadḥ is greater than a khadsh (scratch).

قال ابن الأثير: الكدوح: الخدوش، وكل أثر من خدش أو عض فهو كدح، ويجوز أن يكون مصدرا سمي به الأثر.
Ibn al-Athir said: Al-kudūḥ are scratches, and every mark from a scratch or bite is a kadḥ, and it is permissible for it to be a masdar named after the mark.
وتكدح الجلد: تخدش.

ووقع من السطح فتكدح، أي تكسر.

وقال أبو عبيد: الكدوح: آثار الخدوش، ومنه قيل للحمار الوحشي مكدح، لأن الحمر يعضضنه.
Abu Ubaid said: Al-kudūḥ are the marks of scratches, and from this the wild donkey is called mukdaḥ, because other donkeys bite it.
وأنشد: يمسون حول مكدم قد كدحت متنيه حمل حناتم وقلال
And he recited: They spend the night around a place of biting, whose flanks have been scratched by carrying burdens and peaks.
