The young camel nudges its mother's udder, 'yam'ajuhu ma'jan': it nudges it and opens its mouth to get a firm grip for suckling, and in another version: to be able to suckle well.
وقد روي: مغج الفصيل، بالإعجام أيضا.
And it has been narrated: 'maghaja' the young camel, with the dotting of the 'jim' as well.
وفي حديث معاوية (فمعج البحر معجة تفرق لها السفن) ، أي ماج واضظرب.
And in the narration of Mu'awiyah: 'And the sea surged with a surge that scattered the ships', meaning it churned and became turbulent.
قال عقبة بن غزوان: فعل ذالك في معجة شبابه، وغلوة شبابه، وعنفوانه.
Uqbah ibn Ghazwan said: 'He did that in the prime of his youth, the vigor of his youth, and his full bloom.'
وقال غيره: في موجة شبابه، بمعنى.
And others said: 'in the wave of his youth', meaning the same.
والتمعج: التلوي والتثني.
And 'al-tama''aj': is twisting and bending.
معج في الجري يمعج: تفنن.
He moved swiftly in running, 'yam'aj': he varied his steps.
وحمار معاج: يستن في عدوه يمينا وشمالا.
And a 'mi'aj' donkey: it moves from side to side in its running, to the right and to the left.
ومعجت الناقة معجا: سارت سيرا سهلا؛ قاله ثعلب.
And the she-camel 'ma'ajat' with a 'ma'jah': she traveled an easy journey; Thaalab said this.
ومعج في سيره، إذا سار في كل وجه، وذالك من النشاط.
And he moved swiftly in his journey, if he traveled in every direction, and that is from liveliness.
ومر يمعج: أي (مر) مرا سهلا.
And he passed 'yam'aj': meaning he passed by with an easy passage.
والريح تمعج في النبات: تقلبه يمينا وشمالا.

Dhu al-Rummah said: 'Or a waft from the heights of Hanoah, in which the east wind gently stirred, and the meadow was lush.'
