لهج به، أي بالأمر، (كفرح)، لهجا محركة ولهوج وألهج: (أغري به) وأولع (فثابر عليه) واعتاده.
He was fond of it, meaning the matter, (like faraha), lahjan (with harakah), lahuj, and alhaja: he was made eager for it and obsessed (so he persisted in it) and became accustomed to it.
ويقال: فلان ملحج بهاذا الأمر: أي مولع به.
And it is said: So-and-so is engrossed in this matter: meaning obsessed with it.
واللهج بالشيء: الولوع به.
And al-lahj with a thing: is being obsessed with it.
وألهجت زيد: إذا لهجت فصاله برضاع أمهاتها فيعمل عند ذالك أخلة يشدها في الأخلاف لئلا يرتضع الفصيل.
And Zayd made (the camels) accustomed: if their young camels became accustomed to suckling their mothers, so he would make a device that he would tie to the udders so that the young camel would not suckle.
رأى بسفى البهمى أخلة ملهج
He saw in the down of the Bahaama grass a device for the young camel (to prevent suckling).
والملهج: الراعي الذي لهجت فصال إبله بأمهاتها فاحتاج إلى تفليكها وإجرارها.
And al-malhaj: is the shepherd whose young camels became accustomed to their mothers, so he needed to apply the 'taflik' and 'ijrar' to them.
والتفليك: أن يجعل الراعي من الهلب مثل فلكة المغزل، ثم يثقب لسان الفصيل فيجعل فيه لئلا يرضع.
And al-taflik: is for the shepherd to make from the coarse hair something like the spindle-whorl, then pierce the young camel's tongue and put it in so it does not suckle.
والإجرار: أن يشق لسان الفصيل لئلا يرضع، وهو البدح أيضا.
And al-ijrar: is to slit the young camel's tongue so it does not suckle, and it is also called al-badh.
وأما الخل: فهو أن يأخذ خلالا فيجعله فوق أنف الفصيل يلزقه به، فإذا ذهب يرضع خلف أمه أوجعها طرف الخلال، فزبنته عن نفسها.
And as for al-khall: it is for him to take thorns and place them on the young camel's nose, sticking them to it, so when it goes to suckle its mother, the tip of the thorns hurts her, so she pushes it away from herself.
ولا يقال: ألهجت الفصيل، إنما يقال: ألهج الراعي، إذا لهجت فصاله.
And it is not said: I made the young camel accustomed; rather, it is said: The shepherd made (them) accustomed, if his young camels became accustomed.
وشبه شوك السفى لما يبس بالأخلة التي تجعل فوق أنوف الفصال ويغرى بها.
And he likened the thorns of the downy grass when it dried to the device placed on the noses of the young camels, which makes them eager (for it).
واللهجة، بالتسكين، (ويحرك: اللسان).
And al-lahjah, with sukun, (and with harakah): the tongue.
وهو فصيح (اللهجة) ويقال فلان فصيح اللهجة واللهجة: وهي لغته التي جبل عليها واعتادها ونشأعليها.
And he is eloquent in (his) dialect, and it is said: So-and-so is eloquent in his dialect and his dialect: meaning his language which he was created with, accustomed to, and grew up with.
والهاج الشيء كاحمار (الهيجاجا: اختلط) ، عام في كل مختلط.
And al-haaja the thing, like ihmaara (al-hayaja: mixed), is general in everything mixed.
وأيقظه حين الهاجت عينه: وذالك إذا اختلط بها النعاس.
And it woke him when his eye became drowsy: and that is when sleepiness mixed with it.
والهاج اللبن خثر حتى يختلط بعضه ببعض ولم تتم خثورته.
And the milk curdled until parts of it mixed, without its curdling being complete.
عن أبي زيد: (لهوج) الرجل (أمره) ؛ إذا (لم يبرمه) ولم يحكمه.
From Abu Zayd: The man's (affair) was 'lahuj'; if he did not finalize it and did not manage it properly.
ورأي ملهوج، وحديث ملهوج، وهو مجاز.
And an unresolved opinion, and an unresolved speech, and it is metaphorical.
ولهوج الشواء: لم ينضجه، أو لهوج اللحم: إذا لم ينعم طبخه وشيه.
And 'lahuj' of the roast: not cooking it thoroughly, or 'lahuj' of the meat: if its cooking and roasting were not done tenderly.
طعام ملهوج وملغوس، وهو الذي لم ينضج.
Under-cooked food and mishandled food, and it is that which is not cooked.
خير الشواء الطيب الملهوج قد هم بالنضج ولما ينضج.
The best of the good roast is the under-cooked one, almost cooked but not yet cooked.
والأمر ما رامقته ملهوجا يضويك ما لم تجن منه منضجا.
And the matter is what you observed as under-cooked; it will make you weak unless you prepare it cooked.
ولهوجت اللهم وتلهوجته: إذا لم تنعم طبخه.
And I cooked it poorly, O Allah, and I did not cook it tenderly: if you did not cook it tenderly.
ثرمل الطعام: إذا لم ينضجه صانعه ولم ينفضه من الرماد إذ مله، ويعتذر إلى الضيف فيقال: قد رملنا لك العمل، ولم نتنوق فيه للعجلة.
Tharmala the food: if its maker did not cook it thoroughly and did not remove it from the ashes when it was done, and he apologizes to the guest and says: We have prepared the work for you, and we did not refine it due to haste.
واللهجة والسلفة واللمجة: بمعنى واحد.
And al-lahjah, al-sulafah, and al-lamjah: are synonymous.
ولهجهم تلهيجا: أطعمهم إياها، قال الأموي: لهجت القوم، إذا عللتهم قبل الغداء بلهنة يتعللون بها.
And he gave them a small portion (lahhajahum): he fed them with it. Al-Umavi said: I gave the people a small portion (lahajtu al-qawm), when I gave them something to stave off hunger before lunch.
وتقول العرب: سلفوا ضيفكم ولمجوه ولهجوه ولمكوه وعسلوه وشمجوه (وعيروه) وسفكوه ونشلوه وسودوه، بمعنى واحد.
And the Arabs say: Give your guest a starter (salifu), and give him a starter (lamjuhu), and give him a starter (lahjuhu), and give him a starter (lamkuhu), and give him a starter (asaluhu), and give him a starter (shamjuhu), (and give him a starter (ayyaruhu)), and give him a starter (safakuhu), and give him a starter (nashaluhu), and give him a starter (sawwaduhu), meaning one thing.
والملهج، كمحمد: من ينام ويعجز عن العمل.
And al-malhaj, like Muhammad: one who sleeps and is unable to work.
الفصيل يلهج أمه: إذا تناول ضرعها يمتصه.
The young camel suckles its mother: if it takes hold of her udder to suck it.
ولهجت الفصال: أخذت في شرب اللبن.
And the young camels began to suckle: they started drinking milk.
ولهج الفصيل بأمه يلهج: إذا اعتاد رضاعها.
And the young camel became accustomed to its mother, it suckles: if it became accustomed to her milk.
فهو فصيل لاهج، وفصيل راغل: لاهج بأمه.
So it is a accustomed young camel, and a stray young camel: accustomed to its mother.
وهو لهوج.
And it is lahuj (unresolved/under-cooked).
وفصال لهج.
And young camels that are accustomed (to suckling).
وتلهوج الشيء: تعجله.
And tahlawhuj of a thing: is hastening it.
لولا الإلاه ولولا سعي صاحبنا تلهوجوها كما نالوا من العير.
Were it not for God and were it not for the effort of our companion, hasten it as they obtained it from the camel.
