Far in its stride, a swaying, tall steed, it cuts off the breaths of the camels over the hills.
وقال أبو وجزة: مقارب حين يحزوزي على جدد رسل بمغتلجات الرمل {غواج
And Abu Wajzah said: Close-paced when it treads on firm ground, leisurely over the sand drifts, a swaying gait.
وقال النضر: الغوج: اللين الأعطاف من الخيل، وجمعه غوج، كما يقال جارية خود، والجمع خود.
And Al-Nadr said: Al-Ghawj: the soft-limbed among horses, and its plural is ghuj, as one says a 'khawd' girl, and the plural is 'khud'.
وعشية قامت بالفناء كأنها عقيلة نهب تصطفى
And in the evening she stood in the courtyard as if she were a choice spoil of war.
وتغوج أي تتعرض لرئيس الجيش ليتخذها لنفسه.
And 'tataghawwaj' means she exposes herself to the commander of the army so he may take her for himself.
