The zaalij of arrows: if the archer shoots it and it falls short of the target, hits a rock with a hard impact, rebounds from the rock, gains strength, and flies high, it is not counted as a direct hit.
وعطاء مزلج: أي وتح قليل وعطاء مزعلج: مدبق لم ينم.
And a mazlej gift: meaning a small amount, and a mazaljej gift: sticky and not grown.
والمزلاج والزلاج، الأخير ككتاب: المغلاق، إلا أن يفتح باليد، والمغلاق الذي لا يفتح إلا بالمفتاح سمي بذلك لسرعة انزلاجه.
And al-mizlaaj and az-zallaaj, the latter like kitaab: the lock, except that it opens by hand, and the lock which opens only with a key, is so named because of its quick sliding.
وقد أزلجت الباب، أي أغلقته.

And az-zalj: is speed in walking and other things.

And az-zuluuj like sabuur: is the swift one.
وعن الليث: الزلج: سرعة ذهاب المشي ومضيه يقال: زلجت الناقة تزلج زلجا: إذا مضت مسرعة كأنها لا تحرك قوائمها من سرعتها.
And from Al-Layth: Az-zalj: is the speed of walking and its progression. It is said: the she-camel zalajat tezluju zalajan: if she moved swiftly as if her legs were not moving from her speed.
وأما قول ذي الرمة: حتى إذا زلجت عن كل حنجرة إلى الغليل ولم يقصعنه نغب.
As for the saying of Dhu ar-Rummah: Until it slid from every throat to the thirst, and they did not quench it by sipping.
وقدح زلوج: سريع الانزلاق من اليد.
And a zuluuj cup: slides quickly from the hand.
وعقبة زعلوج: بعيدة طويلة.
And a zaaluj mountain pass: far and long.
