فإنه حذف للضرورة وذلك لمكان الحاجة إلى الردف

ووضع الحوادث موضع الحدثان

وربما أنثت العرب الحدثان، يذهبون به إلى الحوادث
And the Arabs sometimes feminize 'al-hadathan', intending by it 'al-hawadith'.
تقول العرب: أهلكتنا الحدثان
The Arabs say: The occurrences have destroyed us.
ورجل حدث، أي شاب
And a young man, meaning a youth.
وكل فتي من الناس والدواب والإبل حدث
And every young person among humans, animals, and camels is a 'hadath'.
والأنثى حدثة
And the female is 'hadatha'.
فابذا كان الوعل حدثا فهو صدع
So if the mountain goat is young, it is a 'sad' (a type of young goat).
العامة تقول: هو حدث السن، كما تقول: حديث السن، وهو خطأ
The common people say: he is of 'hadath' age, just as they say: of 'hadith' age, and this is an error.
الحدث صفة الرجل نفسه
The 'hadath' is an attribute of the man himself.
فأما الحديث، فصفة يوصف بها كل شيء قريب المدة والعهد به
As for 'al-hadith', it is an attribute by which everything of short duration and recent acquaintance is described.
والحديث: الجديد من الأشياء
And 'al-hadith': the new of things.
والحديث: الخبر، فهما مترادفان
And 'al-hadith': the news, for they are synonyms.
سمعت حديثي حسنة، مثل خطيئي، أي حديثا
I heard a good narration, like my sin, meaning a narration.
وهو شاذ على غير قياس
And it is irregular and not by analogy.
وقيل: الأحاديث جمع أحدوثة
And it is said: 'al-ahadith' is the plural of 'ahduthah'.
تلهى المرء بالحدثانه لهوا
The person is amused by the occurrences with amusement.
إذا أصابه حدثان الدهر من مصائبه ومرازئه ألهته بدلها وحديثها
When the occurrences of time afflict him with its calamities and trials, their replacements and news amuse him.
ورجل حدث وحدث، بضم الدال وكسرها، أي حسن الحديث
And a man of 'hadath' and 'hadath', with damma and kasra of the dal, meaning good in speech.
ورجل حديث مثل فسيق، أي كثير الحديث
And a man of 'hadith' like 'fasiq', meaning much in speech.

And 'al-hadath': with haraka: the initiation.
وقد أحدث، من الحدث
And it has been initiated, from the initiation.
وأحدث الرجل؛ إذا صلع وفصح وخضف، أي ذالك فعل، فهو محدث
And the man became bald; if he became eloquent and clear, meaning that is what he did, so he is one who has become bald.
وأحدثه: ابتدأه وابتدعه، ولم يكخن قبل
And He initiated it: He began it and originated it, and it did not exist before.
الحديث: ما يحدث به المحدث تحديثا
The narration: what one narrates with narration.
وقد حدثه الحديث، وحدثه به
And the narration occurred to him, and he narrated it to him.
المحادثة: جلاء السيف، كالإحداث
Polishing: the cleaning of a sword, like initiating.
أحدث الرجل سيفه، وحادثه، إذا جلاه
The man polished his sword, and conversed with it, if he polished it.
حادثوا هاذه القلوب بذكر الله تعالى، فإنها سريعة الدثور
Polish these hearts with the remembrance of God Almighty, for they are quick to decay.
معناه اجلوها بالمواعظ، واغسلوا الدرن عنها
Its meaning is to polish them with admonishments, and wash away the rust from them.
قد كان في الأمم محدثون، فإن يكخن في أمتي أحد فعمر بن الخطاب
There were among past nations inspired individuals; if there is one such in my community, it is Umar ibn al-Khattab.
المحدث، كمحمد: الصادق أنهم الملهمون
The inspired one, like Muhammad: the truthful, meaning they are divinely inspired.
كأنهم حدثوا بشيء فقالوه
As if they were inspired with something and then said it.
وأحدث الرجل: زنى
And the man committed adultery: he committed fornication.
والأحدوثة بالضم: ما يتحدث به
And 'al-ahduthah' (with damma): what is spoken about.
ونرى أن واحد الأحاديث أحدوثة
And we see that the singular of 'al-ahadith' is 'ahduthah'.
ليس الأمر كما زعم الفراء؛ لأن الأحدوثة بمعنى الأعجوبة
The matter is not as Al-Farra' claimed; because 'al-ahduthah' means a wonder.
قد صار فلان أحدوثة
So-and-so has become a wonder.
فأما أحاديث النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فلا يكون واحدها إلا حديثا، ولا يكون أحدوثة
As for the hadiths of the Prophet, peace be upon him, their singular is only 'hadith', and not 'ahduthah'.
ورجل حدث الملوك، بالكسر إذا كان صاحب حديثهم وسمرهم
And a man of the kings' conversation, with kasra, if he is one who engages in their talk and evening chats.
وحدث نساء: يتحدث إليهن
And women's talk: to converse with them.
