بث الشيء والخبر يبثه، بالضم، ويبثه، بالكسر، بثا
He spread the thing and the news, he spreads it, with damma, and he spreads it, with kasra, a spreading.
فقول شيخنا: أما الكسر فلم يذكره أحد من الغويين، ولا من الصرفيين مع استيعابهم للشواذ والنوادر، فالظاهر أن المصنف اشتبه عليه بنت بالمثناة، بمعنى قطع، فهو الذي حكوا فيه الوجهين، وتبرع هو بزيادة لغة ثالثة غير معروفة، انتهى منظور فيه، وكفى بابن منظور، صاحب اللسان، حجة.
So the statement of our shaykh: As for the kasra, none of the linguists mentioned it, nor the grammarians despite their comprehensive coverage of irregularities and rarities, so it appears that the author confused it with 'bint' (بنت) with the letter ta', meaning to cut, which is what they reported two ways for, and he took it upon himself to add a third, unknown language, ended his statement concerning it, and Ibn Manzur, the owner of Lisan al-Arab, is sufficient as proof.
وأبثه إبثاثا وبثثه، بالتشديد، للمبالغة.
And he made him spread it, ibthathan, and he spread it intensely, with the shadda, for exaggeration.
و قد يبدل من الثاء الوسطى باء تخفيفا، فيقال: بثبثه، كما قالوا في حثثت: حثحثت، كل ذلك بمعنى نشره وفرقه.
And the middle tha' may be replaced by a ba' for simplification, so it is said: bathbathahu, as they said for haththaththu: hathhaththathu, all of that meaning to spread it and disperse it.
أبثه فانبث: فرقه فتفرق، وخلق الله الخلق فبثهم في الأرض
He spread it, and it spread: he dispersed it, so it dispersed, and Allah created creation and dispersed them in the earth.
وبث منهما رجالا كثيرا ونسآء (سورة النساء، الآية: 1) أي نشر وكثر
And He spread from them both many men and women (Surah An-Nisa, Verse: 1) meaning spread and increased.
وفي حديث أم زرع (زوجي لا أبث خبره) أي لا أنشره، لقبح آثاره.
And in the hadith of Umm Zur' (My husband, I do not spread his news) meaning I do not spread it, due to the ugliness of his actions.
وبثبث الخبر بثبثة: نشره.
And he spread the news widely: he disseminated it.
والذي صرح به غير واحد من أئمة اللغة: أبثثت فلانا سرى بالألف إبثاثا، أي أطلعته عليه، وأظهرته له.
And what more than one linguist has stated: I revealed the secret to so-and-so with the alif, ibthathan, meaning I made him aware of it, and I showed it to him.
ومن المجاز: بثثته ما في نفسي، أبثه، وأبثثته إياه: أظهرته له،
And from metaphor: I revealed what was in my soul to him, I made it known, and I revealed it to him: I showed it to him,
وباثثته سري، وباطن أمري: أطلعته عليه، وبينهما مباثة ومنافثة، وبث الخبر فانبث.
And I confided my secret to him, and the inner part of my affair: I informed him of it, and between them is confiding and whispering, and the news spread and dispersed.
وتمر بث ومنبث، إذا لم يجود كنزه فتفرق، وقيل: هو المنتثر الذي ليس في جراب ولا وعاء، كفث، وهو كقولهم: ماء غور.
And scattered dates and dispersed dates, if their storage is not good, so they scatter, and it is said: it is the scattered thing that is not in a pouch or a container, like fath, and it is like their saying: ghaur water.
قال الأصمعي: تمر بث، أي متفرق بعضه من بعض (منثور) أي لعدم جودة كنزه.
Al-Asma'i said: scattered dates, meaning some of them are separated from others (scattered) meaning due to the poor quality of their storage.
وبث الغبار، وبثبثه: هيجه وأثاره.
And he spread the dust, and he agitated it: he provoked and raised it.
وبثبث التراب: استثاره وكشفه عما تحته.
And he stirred up the dust: he provoked it and uncovered what was beneath it.
والمنبث: المغشي عليه من الوجد والحزن، أو من الضرب، وأما قوله تعالى: فكانت هباء منبثا (سورة الواقعة، الآية: 6) فمعناه أي غبارا منتثرا.
And al-munbath: the one who is overcome by intense emotion and grief, or by a blow, and as for Allah's saying: so it became scattered dust (Surah Al-Waqi'ah, Verse: 6) its meaning is scattered dust.
والبث: الحال والحزن، والغم الذي تفضي به إلى صاحبك.
And al-bath: the state and sadness, and the worry that you confide to your companion.
وفي حديث أم زرع: (لا يولج الكف ليعلم البث) قال الأزهري: البث في الأصل: أشد الحزن
And in the hadith of Umm Zur': (he does not put his hand in to know the extent of the suffering) Al-Azhari said: Al-bath in origin: is the most intense grief.
وفي حديث كعب بن مالك (فلما توجه قافلا من تبوك حضرنهي - بثي) أي اشتد حزني.
And in the hadith of Ka'b bin Malik (When he set out returning from Tabuk, my grief intensified - baththi) meaning my sadness intensified.
واستبثه إياه: طلب إليه أن يبثه إياه فالسين للطلب.
And he asked him to reveal it to him: he requested that he spread it to him, so the 'sin' is for request.
بث الخيل في الغارة يبثها بثا فانبثت.
He deployed the horses in the raid, he deployed them with a deployment, so they dispersed.
وبث الصياد كلابه يبثها بثا.
And the hunter released his dogs, he released them with a release.
وانبث الجراد: انتشر.
And the locusts spread: they multiplied.
وتمر منبث: غير مكنوز.
And dispersed dates: not stored.
وبث المتاع بنواحي البيت: بسطه.
And he spread the goods around the house: he laid them out.
وقال الله عز وجل: وزرابي مبثوثة (سورة الغاشية، الآية: 16) أي مبسوطة.
And Allah the Almighty said: and carpets spread out (Surah Al-Ghashiyah, Verse: 16) meaning laid out.
وقال الفراء: مبثوثة، أي كثيرة.
And Al-Farra' said: spread out, meaning numerous.
فلما حضر اليهودي الموحت، قال: بثبثوه
When the afflicted Jew was present, he said: spread it out for him.
وأبثه الحديث: أطلعه عليه.
And he informed him of the hadith: he made him aware of it.
ثم انصرفت ولا! أبثك حيبتي رعش البنان أطيش مشي الأصور
Then I turned away, and no! I will not reveal to you my trembling hands, my unsteady gait.
وبثبثت الأمر، إذا فتشت عنه وتخبرته.
