And in Al-Asas:} - So-and-so negotiated with me: he evaded me and deceived me, and he kept {- negotiating with me with his deception: meaning he maneuvered me, like the action of a fish in water, and Tha'lab recited: I remained {- a cunning, shrewd woman evaded me on the day of Al-Thawiyah from my family and my wealth.
حات الطائر على الشيء،} يحوت: أي حام حوله.

And he {circled with it} yahut, Ta'rifah bin Al-'Abd said: I was not fortunate when I went out and I did not encounter like what I encountered, like a bird that circled around us, aiming at the tablet and not missing.
وفي الحديث: قال أنس: (جئت إلى النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم وعليه خميصة {حوتية) ، قال ابن الأثير: هاكذا جاء في بعض نسخ مسلم، قال: والمحفوظ جونية، أي: سوداء، قال: وأما بالحاء، فلا أعرفها، وطالما بحثت عنها، فلم أقف لها على معنى، وجاءت في رواية: حوتكية، منسوبة إلى الحوتكي، وهو الرجل القصير الخطو، أو هي منسوبة إلى رجل اسمه حوتك.
And in the hadith: Anas said: (I came to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and he was wearing a Khumayisah {Hutiyyah), Ibn al-Athir said: This is how it came in some copies of Muslim, he said: And what is preserved is Juniyyah, meaning: black, he said: As for with the Ha, I do not know it, and I searched for it for a long time, and I did not find a meaning for it, and it came in a narration: Hutakiyyah, attributed to Al-Hutaki, who is the man of short steps, or it is attributed to a man named Hutak.
وفي الأساس:} الحيوت، كتنور، وهو ذكر الحيات.
And in Al-Asas:} Al-Hayut, like Tanur, and it is the male of snakes.
وهو {حوتي الالتقام.
