وخبرني الرئيس الكباري من أهل أثافت، قال: وكانت تسمى في الجاهلية درنى

And Al-Raiys Al-Kabbārī from the people of Athāfat informed me, he said: And it was called Daranī in the Jahiliyyah.

وإياها عنى الأعشى بقوله: أقول للشرب في درنى وقد ثملوا شيموا كيف يشيم الشارب الثمل

And Al-A'sha meant it with his saying: I say to the drinkers in Daranī, when they are intoxicated: Observe how the intoxicated drinker observes.

وكان الأعشى كثيرا ما يتجر فيها، وكان له معصار للخمر يعصر فيها ما جزل له أهل أثافت من أعنابهم.

And Al-A'sha used to trade there often, and he had a press for wine, in which he would press what the people of Athāfat generously gave him of their grapes.
