وهو أثر الجرح الباقي على الجلد إذا لم يرتفع عنه.

Scars appeared on it (with dammah), plural of 'nadab', which is the mark, and a 'nadib' wound is one that is scarred, and a 'nadib' wound is one with scars.
وأندب بظهره، وفي ظهره: غادر فيه ندوبا.
And he left scars on his back, and on his back: he left scars in it.
الندب: أثر الجرح إذا لم يرتفع عن الجلد.
The 'nadab': the mark of the wound if it has not risen from the skin.
ومكبل ترك الحديد بساقه ندبا من الرسفان في الأحجال.
And one hobbled left the iron on his leg, a scar from the hobbling in the fetters.
وإن بالحجر ندبا ستة أو سبعة من ضربه إياه.
And in the stone are marks, six or seven, from striking it.
ليس بالندب، ولاكنه صفرة الوجه والخشوع.
It is not a scar, but rather the paleness of the face and humility.
سأترك في أعراضهم ندبا أي: أجرح أعراضهم بالهجاء، فيغادر فيها ذالك الجرح ندبا.
I will leave a scar on their honor, meaning: I will wound their honor with satire, and that wound will leave a scar in it.
وندبه إلى الأمر، كنصر: دعاه، وحثه.
And he called him to the matter, like 'nasara': he called him, and urged him.
والندب: أن يندب إنسان قوما إلى أمر أو حرب أو معونة، أي: يدعوهم إليه، فينتدبون له، أي: يجيبون ويسارعون.
And 'al-nadab': is for a person to call people to a matter, or war, or aid, meaning: to invite them to it, and they respond to it, meaning: they answer and hasten.
ندبه إلى أمر: وجهه إليه.
He appointed him to a matter: he directed him to it.
وفلان مندوب لأمر عظيم، ومندب له.
And so-and-so is appointed for a great matter, and is designated for it.
أضرت به الحاجة، فأندبته إندابا شديدا: أي أثرت فيه.
Need harmed him, so it severely affected him: meaning it impacted him.
وما ندبني إلى ما فعلت إلا النصح لك.
Nothing urged me to do what I did except sincere advice to you.
ندب الميت: بكاه، وعدد محاسنه وأفعاله، يندبه، ندبا، والاسم الندبة، بالضم.
He lamented the deceased: he cried for him, and recounted his virtues and deeds, he laments him, with 'nadban', and the noun is 'nadbah' (with dammah).
كل نادبة، كاذبة إلا نادبة سعد.
Every wailing woman is a liar, except for the wailing woman of Sa'd.
والمندوب المستحب، كذا حققه الفقهاء.
And 'al-mandub' is the recommended, thus the jurists have confirmed it.
كان له فرس يقال له المندوب أي المطلوب.
He had a horse called 'Al-Mandub', meaning the sought-after.
وجدناه لبحرا.
We found him to be a sea.
والندب: الرجل الخفيف في الحاجة، والسريع الظريف النجيب وكذالك الفرس.
And 'al-nadab': the agile man in need, the quick, witty, noble one, and likewise the horse.
رجل ندب: إذا ندب، أي وجه، لاءمر عظيم خف له.
An agile man: if he is called, meaning directed, for a great matter, he hastens to it.
وقد ندب، كظرف، يندب، ندابة: خف في العمل.
And he was agile, like 'zarfa', he is agile, with 'nadabah': he was quick in action.
الندب: الفرس الماضي، نقيض البليد.
The 'nadab': the swift horse, the opposite of sluggish.
رمينا ندبا، بالتحريك، وهو الرشق بكسر الراء وفتحها.
We threw 'nadaban' (with vowel movement), which is the 'rashq' (with kasrah or fatha of the 'ra').
وبينهم ندب، وهو الخطر، والرهان.
And among them is 'nadab', which is the risk, and the wager.
أيهلك معتم وزيد ولم أقم على ندب يوما ولي نفس مخطر.
Will Ma'tam and Zayd perish, and I have not faced a risk for a day, and I have a soul that takes chances?
السبق، والخطر، والندب، والقرع، والوجب: كله الذي يوضع في النضال والرهان، فمن سبق، أخذه؛ يقال فيه كله: فعل، مشددا، إذا أخذه.
The race, the risk, the wager, the 'qara', and the 'wajab': all of which are placed in archery and betting, so whoever wins, takes it; it is said for all of them: 'fa'ala' (intensified), if he takes it.
ندبنا يوم كذا: أي يوم ابتدائنا للرمي.
We began shooting on such-and-such a day: meaning the day we started shooting.
والندبة، كحمزة، مولاة ميمونة بنت الحارث الهلالية، زوج النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم لها صحبة.
And 'Al-Nadbah', like 'Hamzah', was a freedwoman of Maymunah bint Al-Harith Al-Hilaliyyah, wife of the Prophet, peace be upon him, she had companionship.
والحسن بن ندبة، وهي أمه، وأبوه حبيب: محدث.
And Al-Hasan bin Nadbah, and she is his mother, and his father is Habib: a traditionist.
والندبة، بفتح فسكون، من كل حافر وخف: التي لا تثبت على حالة.
And 'al-nadbah' (with fatha and sukun), from every hoof and foot: that which does not remain in one state.
عربي ندبة، بالضم، أي فصيح منطيق.
An eloquent Arab (with dammah), meaning eloquent and articulate.
خفاف بن ندبة، بالضم: اسم أمه، وكانت سوداء حبشية، ويفتح، وعليه اقتصر الجوهري. صحابي.
Khifaf bin Nadbah (with dammah): the name of his mother, and she was a black Ethiopian woman, and it is pronounced with fatha, and Al-Jauhari limited himself to that. A companion.
وهو من ندبت الإنسان لاءمر: إذا دعوته إليه، والموضع الذي يندب إليه مندب، سمي بذالك لما كان يندب إليه في عمل.
And it is from 'nadabtu al-insana li-amr': if you call him to it, and the place to which one is called is a 'mandab', it was named thus because of what one was called to do there.
ضربته، فأندبه: أثر بجلده.
He struck him, and it left a mark: it affected his skin.
أندبه الكلم: إذا أثر فيه.
The wounds affected it: if it left a mark on it.
لو يدب الحولي من ولد الذر عليها لأندبتها الكلوم.
If a year-old lamb from the offspring of ants walked on it, the wounds would leave a mark on it.
أندب نفسه، وأندب بها: خاطر بها.
He risked himself, and risked himself with it: he gambled with it.
انتدب الله لمن خرج في سبيله لا يخرجه إلا إيمان بي، وتصديق برسلي، أن أرجعه بما نال من أجر أو غنيمة، أو أدخله الجنة.
God responded to whoever goes out in His cause, nothing drives him out except belief in Me and belief in My messengers, that I will return him with the reward or spoils he gained, or admit him to Paradise.
أي أجابه إلى غفرانه أو ضمن، وتكفل له، أو سارع بثوابه وحسن جزائه.
Meaning He answered him with His forgiveness, or guaranteed and undertook for him, or hastened with his reward and good recompense.
وانتدب القوم من ذوات أنفسهم أيضا دون أن يندبوا له.
And the people volunteered from their own selves as well, without being called to it.
أي حقق، وأحكم أن ينجز له ذالك.
Meaning He confirmed and decreed that this would be accomplished for him.
عارضه في كلامه.
He opposed him in his speech.
أي نض، قاله أبو عمر و.
Meaning it is ready, said Abu Amr.
رجل مندبى، كهندبى، بكسر الدال المهملة فيهما وفتحهما مقصورا: خفيف في الحاجة سريع لقضائها فهو كقولك: رجل ندب.
A 'mandabi' man, like 'hindabi', with kasrah or fatha of the unpointed 'dal' (shortened): agile in need, quick to fulfill it, so he is like saying: an agile man.
إياكم ورضاع السوء فإنه لا بد من أن ينتدب.
Beware of bad nursing, for it is inevitable that it will manifest.
ارتمى ندبا، أو ندبين: أي وجها، أو وجهين.
He threw himself 'nadaban', or 'nadibayn': meaning one face, or two faces.
والندابتان: من شيات الخيل، مذمومتان.
And 'Al-Nadabatan': are among the markings of horses, and they are blameworthy.
والمندوب: الرسول، بلغة مكة.
And 'Al-Mandub': the messenger, in the dialect of Mecca.
