So they attained what they wished for, and that is the fulfillment of the vow.

Among the diseases of camels: 'al-nuhab', 'al-quhab', and 'al-nuhaz', and all of this is from coughing.
فمنهم من قضى نحبه
So among them is he who has met his end.
أي: أجله
Meaning: his appointed time.
طلحة ممن قضى نحبه
Talhah is among those who fulfilled his vow.
أي: نذره، كأنه ألزم نفسه أن يصدق الأعداء في الحرب، فوفى به، ولم يفسخ.
Meaning: his vow, as if he obligated himself to be truthful to the enemies in war, so he fulfilled it and did not break it.
ونحب فلان نحبا، ونحب تنحيبا: أوجب على نفسه أمرا
And so-and-so vowed a vow, and vowed a vowing: he obligated himself to a matter.
فإني والهجاء لآل لأم كذات النحب توفي بالنذور
For I and the satire of the family of Umm are like one who fulfills vows.
أنحب فيقضى أم ضلال وباطل
Is it a vow to be fulfilled, or misguidance and falsehood?
يقول: عليه نذر في طول سعيه.
He says: he has a vow upon him throughout his endeavor.
والنحب: السير السريع، مثل النعب
And 'al-nahb': fast travel, like 'al-na'b'.
يوم نحب، أي طويل.
A day of 'nahb', meaning long.
والنحب: المدة والوقت
And 'al-nahb': the duration and the time.
والنحب: النوم
And 'al-nahb': sleep.
والنحب: السمن
And 'al-nahb': fatness.
والنحب: الشدة
And 'al-nahb': severity.
والقمار، وهو قريب من المراهنة.
And gambling, which is close to betting.
والنحب: العظيم من الإبل
And 'al-nahb': the great one among camels.
نحبوا تنحيبا، وذالك إذا جدوا في عملهم
They strove a striving, and that is when they were serious in their work.
يزرن ألالا ما ينحبن غيره
They visit the Alala, not striving for anything else.
أو نحبوا: إذا ساروا، فأجهدوا حتى قربوا من الماء
Or they strove: if they traveled, and exerted themselves until they neared the water.
وهو شدة القرب للماء
And it is the intense proximity to water.
تغول منحب القرب اغتيالا
It deceives the one who is close to water stealthily.
نحب السفر فلانا: إذا سار كثيرا، وأجهده
Travel exhausted so-and-so: if he traveled a lot, and exhausted him.
سير نحب، ومنحب كمحدث، أي: سريع
A journey of 'nahb', and 'munhib' like 'muhdith', meaning: fast.
سار فلان على نحب: إذا سار فأجهد السير، كأنه خاطر على شيء فجد
So-and-so traveled on a 'nahb': if he traveled and exerted himself in the journey, as if he risked something and was serious.
ورد القطا منها بخمس نحب
The sandgrouse drank from it in five days of continuous travel.
وسرنا إليها ثلاث ليال منحبات: أي دائبات.
And we traveled to it for three nights, continuously: meaning, diligently.
ونحبنا سيرنا: دأبناه
And we made our journey 'nahb': we made it continuous.
سار سيرا منحبا، أي: قاصدا، لا يريد غيره، كأنه جعل ذالك نذرا على نفسه.
He traveled a 'munhib' journey, meaning: purposeful, not wanting anything else, as if he made that a vow upon himself.
كما صار عن يمنى يديه المنحب
As the determined one became from the right of his hands.
هذا البيت أنشده ثعلب، وفسره فقال هاذا الرجل حلف: إن لم أغلب قطعت يدي. كأنه ذهب به إلى معنى النذر، كذا في لسان العرب، وفيه تأمل.
Thal'ab recited this verse and explained it, saying: This man swore: If I am not victorious, I will cut off my hand. It is as if he meant it in the sense of a vow, as stated in Lisan al-Arab, and it requires contemplation.
والنحبة، بالضم: القرعة
And 'al-nahbah', with damma: the lot.
ناحبه إذا حاكمه وفاخره
He challenged him if he sued him and boasted to him.
لاءنها كالحاكمة في الاستهام، وهو من المجاز.
Because it is like a judge in casting lots, and this is metaphorical.
ناحبت الرجل إلى فلان: مثل حاكمته.
I took the man to so-and-so: like I sued him.
فهل لك في أن أناحبك، وترفع النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم
So, do you want me to challenge you, and you elevate the Prophet, peace be upon him?
ناحبت الرجل: إذا حاكمته، أو قاضيته إلى رجل.
I challenged a man: if I sued him, or brought him to arbitration before a man.
ناحبته ونافرته مثله
I challenged him and competed with him similarly.
أنافرك، أي: أفاخرك وأحاكمك، فتعد فضائلك وحسبك، وأعد فضائلي، ولا تذكر في فضائلك النبي، صلى الله عليه وسلم وقرب قرابتك منه؛ فإن هاذا الفضل مسلم لك، فارفعه من الرأس، وأنافرك بما سواه.
I compete with you, meaning: I boast to you and sue you, so you count your merits and lineage, and I will count my merits, and do not mention in your merits the Prophet, peace be upon him, and your close kinship to him; for this merit is assured to you, so elevate it from the start, and I will compete with you in what is other than that.
لو علم الناس ما في الصف الأول، لاقتتلوا عليه، وما تقدموا إلا بنحبة
If people knew what was in the first row, they would fight for it, and they would not advance except by a lot.
أي: بقرعة.
Meaning: by a drawing of lots.
المناحبة: المخاطرة، والمراهنة.
Al-munahabah: risking, and betting.
ناحبه: إذا راهنه.
He bet him: if he bet him.
غلبت الروم صلى الله عليه وسلم
The Romans have overcome, peace be upon him.
أي: مراهنته لقريش بين الروم والفرس.
Meaning: his bet with Quraysh between the Romans and the Persians.
