And its proper form should have been 'Labbā lak', and it is dual for emphasis, meaning: adherence after adherence.
قال الفراء: معنى لبيك إجابة لك بعد إجابة
Al-Farra' said: The meaning of 'Labbayka' is answering you after answering.
هو مأخوذ من لب بالمكان، وألب به. إذا أقام
It is derived from 'to stay in a place', and 'to reside in it', when one stays.
وقيل: معناه: أي تحلب اللبأ وتشربه، جعله من اللبإ، فترك الهمز، وهو قول أبي الهيثم
And it was said: its meaning is: to drink colostrum, deriving it from 'labā', omitting the hamza, which is the saying of Abu Al-Haytham.
أصله من: ألببت بالمكان، فإذا دعا الرجل صاحبه، أجابه: لبيك، أي: أنا مقيم عندك؛ ثم وكد ذالك بلبيك، أي: إقامة بعد إقامة
Its origin is from: 'I stayed in the place', so when a man calls his companion, he answers him: 'Labbayka', meaning: I am staying with you; then he confirms that with 'Labbayka', meaning: staying after staying.
أو معناه: اتجاهي إليك، وقصدي لك، وإقبالي على أمرك
Or its meaning: my direction towards you, my intention for you, and my turning to your command.
داري تلب داره، أي: تواجهها وتحاذيها
My house faces his house, meaning: it is opposite it and parallel to it.

Or its meaning: my sincerity to you, derived from their saying: 'Hasab lubāb', with damma, meaning: pure, unadulterated.
قال الخطابي: معناه: سلمت يداك وصحتا، وإنما ترك الإعراب في قوله: يديك، وكان حقه أن يقول: يداك، ليزدوج يديك بلبيك
Al-Khattabi said: Its meaning is: May your hands be safe and sound. He left the case ending for 'yadayka' because it should have been 'yadāka' to match 'yadayka' with 'labbayka'.
معنى لبى يديك، أي: أطيعك، وأتصرف بإرادتك، وأكون كالشيء الذي تصرفه بيديك كيف شئت
The meaning of 'Labbā yadayk' is: I obey you, I act according to your will, and I am like something you manipulate with your hands as you wish.
واللب، بالفتح: الحادي اللازم لسوق الإبل، لا يفتر عنها ولا يفارقها
And 'Al-Lubb', with fatha: the camel driver who stays with and guides the camels, never tiring of them or leaving them.
ورجل لب: لازم لصنعته، لا يفارقها
And a 'lubb' man: one who sticks to his craft and does not leave it.
ويقال: رجل لب طب، أي: لازم للأمر
And it is said: a 'lubb tabb' man, meaning: one who adheres to the task.
واللب: المقيم بالأمر
And 'Al-Lubb': one who remains steadfast in a matter.
وقال ابن الأعرابي: اللب: الطاعة: وأصله من الإقامة
And Ibn Al-A'rabi said: 'Al-Lubb': obedience; its origin is from staying.
قولهم: لبيك: اللب واحد، فإذا ثنيت، قلت في الرفع: لبان، وفي النصب والخفض: لبين
Their saying: 'Labbayka': 'Al-Lubb' is singular. If you dualize it, you say in the nominative: 'Labbān', and in the accusative and genitive: 'Labbayn'.
وكان في الأصل: لبينك، أي أطعتك مرتين، ثم حذفت النون للإضافة، أي أطعتك طاعة، مقيما عندك إقامة بعد إقامة
And it was originally: 'Labbaynak', meaning 'I obeyed you twice', then the 'nun' was deleted for annexation, meaning 'I obeyed you with obedience, staying with you, staying after staying'.
وزعم يونس أن لبيك اسم مفرد، بمنزلة عليك، ولاكنه جاء على هاذا اللفظ في حد الإضافة
Yunus claimed that 'Labbayka' is a single word, like 'Alayka', but it came in this form due to annexation.
وزعم الخليل أنها تثنية، كأنه قال: كلما أجبتك في شيء، فأنا في الآخر لك مجيب
And Al-Khalil claimed it is dual, as if he said: 'Every time I answer you about something, I am in the next instance answering you'.
يدلك على صحة قول الخليل قول بعض العرب: لب، يجريه مجرى أمس وغاق
What indicates the correctness of Al-Khalil's statement is the saying of some Arabs: 'Lub', treating it like 'Ams' and 'Aqiq'.
الألف في لبى عند بعضهم، هي ياء التثنية في: لبيك، لاءنهم اشتقوا من الاسم المبني الذي هو الصوت مع حرف التثنية فعلا، فجمعوه من حروفه
The 'alif' in 'Labbā' for some of them is the 'ya' of duality in 'Labbayka', because they derived a verb from the fixed noun, which is the sound with the dual particle, and they formed it from its letters.
وأما قول يونس، فزعم أن لبيك اسم مفرد، وأصله عنده: لبب، وزنه فعلل
As for Yunus's saying, he claimed that 'Labbayka' is a single word, and its origin with him is 'lubub', with the pattern 'fulful'.
فقلب الباء، التي هي اللام الثانية من لبب، ياء، هربا من التضعيف، فصار لبي، ثم أبدل الياء ألفا لتحركها وانفتاح ما قبلها، فصار لبى
So he changed the 'ba', which is the second 'lam' of 'lubub', to a 'ya', to avoid doubling, making it 'lubbi', then he changed the 'ya' to an 'alif' due to its movement and the preceding fatha, making it 'lubbā'.
ثم إنه لما وصلت بالكاف في لبيك، وبالهاء في لبيه، قلبت الألف ياء، كما قلبت في إلى وعلى ولدى، إذا وصلتها بالضمير، فقلت: إليك، وعليك، ولديك
Then, when it was connected with the 'kaf' in 'Labbayka' and the 'ha' in 'Labbayhi', the 'alif' was changed to a 'ya', as it is changed in 'ila', 'ala', and 'lada' when connected to a pronoun, so you say: 'Ilayka', 'Alayka', 'Ladayka'.
واللب، بالضم: السم
And 'Al-Lubb', with damma: poison.
وربما سمي سم الحية لبا
And sometimes snake venom is called 'lubban'.
واللب: خالص كل شيء، كاللباب، بالضم أيضا
And 'Al-Lubb': the essence of everything, like 'lubāb', also with damma.
ومن النخل: جوفه. وقد غلب على ما يؤكل داخله ويرمى خارجه من الثمر
And from palm trees: its core. It has become predominant for what is eaten inside and its outer part is discarded from the fruit.
ولب الجوز ونحوه: ما في جوفه، والجمع اللبوب
And the core of walnuts and the like: what is in their interior, and the plural is 'al-lubūb'.
ولب النخلة: قلبها
And the core of a palm tree: its heart.
لب الرجل: ما جعل في قلبه من العقل، سمي به لاءنه خلاصة الإنسان
A man's 'lubb': what is placed in his heart of intellect, named so because it is the essence of a person.
قلبي إليه مشرف الألب
My heart is drawn to him, possessing intellect.
وربما أظهروا التضعيف في ضرورة الشعر، قال الكميت: إليكم بني آل النبي تطلعت نوازع من قلبي ظماء وألبب
And sometimes they reveal the doubling in poetic necessity. Al-Kumait said: To you, O descendants of the Prophet's family, desires from my heart have reached out, thirsty and possessing intellect.
وقد لببت، بالكسر وبالضم، أي: من باب: فرح وقرب، تلب بالفتح، لبا بالضم ولبا، ولبابة بالفتح فيهما: صرت ذا لب
And 'lababa', with kasra and damma, meaning: from the pattern 'faraha' and 'quruba', 'talubbu' with fatha, 'lubban' with damma and 'lubban', and 'lubābah' with fatha in both: I became possessed of intellect.
فقالت: ليلب، ويقود الجيش ذا الجلب، أي يصير ذا لب ورواه بعضهم أضربه لكي يلب، ويقود الجيش ذا اللجب
So she said: 'May he become intelligent and lead the army with its clamor', meaning 'to become intelligent'. Some narrated it as 'I strike him so that he may become intelligent and lead the army with its clamor'.
هاذه لغة أهل الحجاز، وأهل نجد يقولون: لب يلب، بوزن فر يفر
This is the dialect of the Hijaz. The people of Najd say: 'laba yalubbu', on the pattern of 'fara yafirru'.
وليس فعل بالضم يفعل بالفتح سوى لببت، بالضم، تلب بالفتح
And there is no verb with damma in the past and fatha in the present except 'lababa', with damma, 'talubbu', with fatha.
وهو الذي صرح به شراح اللامية والتسهيل وغيرهم، وحكاه الزجاج عن العرب، واليزيدي، ونقله ابن القطاع في صرفه
And this is what the commentators of Al-Lāmiyyah, Al-Tashīl, and others have stated. Al-Zajjāj narrated it from the Arabs, and Al-Yazīdī, and Ibn Al-Qattā' transmitted it in his morphology.
وحكى اليزيدي أيضا: لببت تلب، بكسر عين الماضي، وضمها في المستقبل
Al-Yazīdī also narrated: 'lababa talubbu', with kasra on the middle letter of the past, and damma in the present.
وحكاه يونس بضمهما جميعا
And Yunus narrated it with both being damma.
والأعم: لبب، كفرح
And the general case: 'lababa', like 'faraha'.
دم الرجل، يدم، دمامة، من بابي: ضرب وتعب، ومن باب قرب لغة، فيقال: دممت، تدم
A man's 'damm': 'yadummu', 'damāmah', from the patterns 'ḍaraba' and 'ta'iba', and from the pattern 'quruba' is a dialectal form, so it is said: 'damamt', 'tadummu'.
ومثله: لببت تلب، وشررت تشر من الشر، ولا يكاد يوجد لها رابع في المضاعف
And similarly: 'lababa talubbu', and 'shararta tashurru' from 'al-sharr', and there is hardly a fourth example for this pattern in doubled verbs.
واللبب: موضع المنحر من كل شيء
And 'Al-Labab': the place of the sacrificial offering on anything.
قيل: وبه سمي لبب الفرس
It was said: And the chest of a horse is named after it.
واللبب: كاللبة، وهو موضع القلادة من الصدر من كل شيء، أو النقرة فوقه
And 'Al-Labab': like 'Al-Labbah', which is the place of the necklace on the chest of anything, or the hollow above it.

And the plural is 'Al-Albāb'.
اللبة وسط الصدر والمنحر، والجمع لباب
The 'labbah' is the middle of the chest and the sacrificial place, and the plural is 'lubāb'.
وهي العظام التي فوق الصدر وأسفل الحلق بين الترقوتين، وفيها تنحر الإبل
And it is the bones above the chest and below the throat between the collarbones, where camels are sacrificed.
ومن المجاز: أخذ في لبب الرمل، هو: ما استرق من الرمل وانحدر من معظمه، فصار بين الجلد وغلظ الأرض
And from metaphor: he took from the base of the sand dune, which is: what is thinned from the sand and descends from its bulk, becoming between the skin and the thickness of the earth.
وقيل: لبب الكثيب: مقدمه
And it was said: the base of the sand dune: its front.
براقة الجيد واللبات واضحة كأنها ظبية أفضى بها لبب
The shining neck and chest are clear, like a gazelle whose front is exposed by the base of the dune.
معظم الرمل: العقنقل، فإذا نقص، قيل: كثيب، فإذا نقص، قيل: عوكل، فإذا نقص، قيل: سقط، فإذا نقص، قيل: عداب، فإذا نقص، قيل: لبب
The bulk of the sand is 'Al-'Aqnaql', and when it decreases, it is called 'Kathīb', and when it decreases, it is called 'Awkal', and when it decreases, it is called 'Saqt', and when it decreases, it is called 'Adāb', and when it decreases, it is called 'Labab'.
واللبب من الرمل: ما كان قريبا من حبل الرمل
And 'Al-Labab' of sand: what is close to the sand ridge.
وهو ما يشد في صدر الدابة أو الناقة، كما في نسخة بدل الدابة
And it is what is fastened to the chest of a beast of burden or a she-camel, as in a copy instead of 'beast of burden'.
يكون للرحل والسرج ليمنع استئخار الرحل والسرج، أي: يمنعهما من التأخير
It is for the saddle and the girth to prevent the saddle and girth from slipping back, meaning: to prevent them from lagging behind.
وألببت السرج: عملت له لببا
And I fitted the saddle with a chest strap: I made a chest strap for it.
وألببت الدابة، فهي ملبب جاء على الأصل، وهو نادر: جعلت له لببا
And I fitted the beast of burden with a chest strap, so it is 'mulabbab', which follows the original form, and it is rare: I made a chest strap for it.
وهذا الحرف، هاكذا رواه ابن السكيت بإظهار التضعيف
And this word, Ibn Al-Sikkit narrated it thus, showing the doubling.
وهو غلط وقياسه ملب، كما يقال محب، من: أحببته
And this is an error, and its analogy is 'mulabb', as one says 'muhibb', from: 'ahbabtuhu'.
وكذالك لببتها، أي: الدابة، فهي ملبوبة من الثلاثي، عن ابن الأعرابي
And similarly, 'lababtuhā', meaning: the beast of burden, so it is 'malbūbah' from the triliteral root, according to Ibn Al-A'rabi.
واللبلاب: حشيشة، ونبت يلتوي على الشجر
And 'Al-Lablab': a herb, and a plant that twines around trees.
واللبلاب: بقلة معروفة، يتداوى بها
And 'Al-Lablab': a known herb, used for treatment.
