And Kawkaban: a fortress on a mountain near Sana'a in Yemen, containing a palace whose interior was inlaid with rubies and jewels, and its exterior with silver and stones, so that the rubies and jewels would gleam at night like stars, and it was named thus.

What a bad food for hungry children is 'kabdaa', which comes from the heights of Kawkab.

أراد بالكبداء: رحى تدار باليد، نحتت من كواكب، وهو بالضم جبل بعينه، تنحت منه الأرحية وهو جمع رحى، وسيأتي في المعتل: أن الأرحية نادرة.

He intended by 'kabdaa': a hand-mill, carved from Kawkab, which is a mountain by name with damma, from which mills are carved, and it is the plural of 'riha', and it will be mentioned later in the defective verbs: that 'arhiya' is rare.

والكوكبية: ة ظلم أهلها عامل بها، فدعوا عليه دعوة، ف لم يلبث أن مات عقبها.

And al-Kawkabiyyah: a village whose inhabitants were wronged by an agent, so they invoked a curse upon him, and he did not live long after it.

ومننه المثل: دعوة كوكبية؛ وقال الشاعر: فيا رب سعد دعوة كوكبية تصادف سعدا أو يصادفها سعد

And from it is the proverb: a Kawkabiyyah curse; and the poet said: O Lord, may a Kawkabiyyah curse meet with good fortune, or may good fortune meet it.

And Kawkab: a place name, Al-Akhtal said: Longing for them and finding them when my gaze followed them, and among them by my side was Kawkab Zamir.

And what is in Al-Tahdhib: Kawkaba, on the pattern of 'faw'la', like Khuzla: a valley, and he recited: By my side is Kawkaba Zamir.

And Kuwaykib: a mosque between Tabuk and the honored Medina for the Prophet, peace be upon him.

ويقال: كوكب الحديد كوكبة: برق، وتوقد.

And it is said: the kawkab of iron is kawkabah: flashing, and sparkling.

ويقال يوم ذو كواكب بالفتح: أي ذو شدائد، كأنه أظلم بما فيه من الشدائد، حتى رئي كواكب السماء، قال: تريه الكواكب ظهرا وبيصا

And it is said 'yawm dhu kawakib' (with fatha): meaning full of hardships, as if it became darker due to the hardships within it, until the stars of the sky were seen, he said: It shows him the stars at noon and with a bright light.

وعن أبي عبيدة: ذهبوا تحت كل كوكب، أي: تفرقوا.

And from Abu Ubaydah: They went under every star, meaning: they scattered.

والذي فات المصنف من هاذه المادة: كوكب: اسم رجل، أضيف إليه الحش، وهو البستان.

And what the author missed from this entry: Kawkab: a man's name, to whom 'al-hush', which is the garden, was attributed.

And Kawkab also: the name of a horse belonging to a man who came to circumambulate the Kaaba with it, so he wrote to Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, about it, and he said: Prevent him.
