وَهَذِهِ اللَّفْظَةُ هِيَ الْقَدِيمَةُ عَنِ الْعَرَبِ، وَغَيَّرَتْهَا الْعَامَّةُ الْأُولَى، فَقَالَتْ: الْقَلْطَبَانُ، وَجَاءَتْ عَامَّةٌ سُفْلَى، فَغَيَّرَتْ عَلَى الْأُولَى، فَقَالَتْ: الْقُرْطُبَانُ

And this word is the old one from the Arabs, and the first common people changed it, saying: 'al-qalṭabān', and a lower common group came, and changed it from the first, saying: 'al-qurṭubān'.

القُرْطُب، والقُرْطُوب، بالضم: الذكر من السعالي

'Al-qurṭub', and 'al-qurṭūb' (with damma): the male of the jinn.
