والشوب: ما شبته من ماء أو لبن فهو مشوب ومشيب.
And al-shoub is what you mix of water or milk, so it is mixed (mashub) and mixed (mashib).
فالشوب: (العسل) المشوب.
So al-shoub is the mixed (al-mashub) honey.
والروب: اللبن الرائب.
And al-raub is curdled milk.
ويقال: سقاه الشوب بالذوب.
And it is said: he gave him to drink the milk (al-shoub) with the honey (al-dhawb).
فالشوب: اللبن، الذوب: العسل.
So al-shoub is the milk, and al-dhawb is the honey.

He became mixed (ishtaba) and became mixed (inshaba): they became mixed.
جدت مناصبه شفان غادية بسكر ورحيق شيب فاشتابا
Generous were its flowing gifts with wine and nectar mixed (shayb), so they became mixed (fashtaba).

And it is narrated 'they became mixed' (fainshaba), which is more indicative of the passive/intransitive form.

Al-mashawib (with damma and fatha on the waw): the casing of a bottle.
لأنه مشوب بحمرة وصفرة وخضرة،
Because it is mixed (mashub) with redness, yellowness, and greenness,

كما يقال: في فلان ذوبة أي حمقة ظاهرة.
As it is said: in so-and-so there is a dhubah, meaning apparent foolishness.
أما الفتحة المشوبة بالكسرة، فالفتحة التي قبل الإمالة نحو فتحة عين عابد عارف.
As for the vowel 'fatha' mixed (al-mashoubah) with 'kasra', it is the 'fatha' that precedes the inclination, like the 'fatha' of 'ayn' in 'abid' and 'arif'.
وذلك أن الإمالة إنما هي أن تنحو بالفتحة نحو الكسرة فتميل الألف (نحو الياء لضرب من تجانس الصوت،
And that is because inclination is to move the 'fatha' towards the 'kasra', thus inclining the 'alif' (towards the 'ya' for a kind of phonetic assimilation,
فكما أن الحركة ليست بفتحة محضة كذلك الألف؟ التي بعدها ليست ألفا محضة، وهذا هو القياس؛
So just as the vowel is not a pure 'fatha', likewise the 'alif' that follows it is not a pure 'alif', and this is the analogy;
لأن الألف تابعة للفتحة، فكما أن الفتحة مشوبة فكذلك الألف اللاحق لها،
Because the 'alif' follows the 'fatha', so just as the 'fatha' is mixed (mashubah), likewise is the 'alif' that follows it,
شاب إذا خان، وباش إذا خلط.
He said 'shaba' if he betrayed, and 'basha' if he mixed.
هو يشوب ويروب.
He mixes and curdles (yashubu wa yarubu).
يقال للرجل إذا نضح عن الرجل قد شاب عنه
It is said of a man when he defends another man, he has defended him (shaba 'anhu).
وشوب إذا دافع
And 'shouba' if he defends.
التشويب: أن ينضح نضحا غير مبالغ فيه.
Al-tashwib: is to defend with a defense that is not exaggerated.
لقيت فلانا اليوم يشوب عن أصحابه، إذا دافع عنهم شيئا من دفاع،
I met so-and-so today defending his companions (yashubu 'an ashabihi), meaning he defended them with some defense,
إذا كسل.
If he was lazy.
وشوب إذا خدع في بيع أو شراء.
And he said 'shaba' if he was deceived in a sale or purchase.
شاب شوبا إذا غش.
He mixed (shaba) with mixing (shouban) if he adulterated.
فشوبوه بالصدقة
So mix it (shoubuuhu) with charity.
وسقاه الذوب بالشوب.
And he gave him to drink the honey (al-dhawb) with the mixture (al-shoub).
فالشوب: اللبن، الذوب: العسل.
So al-shoub is the milk, and al-dhawb is the honey.
