وفي الحديث أنه صلى الله عليه وسلم سئل عن الفرع وذبح، فقال: هو حق، ولأن تتركه حتى يكون ابن مخاض أو ابن لبون زخربا خير من أن تكفىء إناءك وتوله ناقتك

And in the hadith, it is narrated that the Prophet, peace be upon him, was asked about the Far' and slaughter, and he said: It is permissible, and for you to leave it until it becomes a son of a she-camel in its first year (ibn makhāḍ) or a son of a she-camel in its second year (ibn labūn) that is stout, is better than you overturning your vessel and making your she-camel distraught by the loss of her offspring.

الفرع: أول ما تلده الناقة، كانوا يذبحونه لآلهتهم، فكره ذلك

The Far': the first offspring a she-camel gives birth to, they used to slaughter it for their idols, and he disliked that.

وقال: لأن تتركه حتى يكبر وينتفع بلحمه خير من أنك تذبحه فينقطع لبن أمه، فتكب إناءك الذي كنت تحلب فيه وتجعل ناقتك والهة بفقد ولدها

And he said: For you to leave it until it grows and you benefit from its meat is better than you slaughtering it, thus cutting off its mother's milk, and you overturn your vessel from which you used to milk, and make your she-camel distraught by the loss of her offspring.
